Experience in Guadalajara, Mexico by Aranza

What is it like to live in Guadalajara? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a very nice city to live in, the weather is warm most of the year reaching temperatures of 30 ºC during the summer, the coldest season is from mid December through mid February. Guadalajara is a big city there are modern places and also old and traditional ones. You can find a lot of things to do, the nightlife is amazing, there are a lot of restaurants, a lot of parks and green areas, malls and everything you need to have fun.

People are very friendly and warm hearted so you will definitely have a good time in here.

How much does it cost to live in Guadalajara?

On average, rents can go from $3, 000 to $6, 000, the prices rise depending on the location and you are usually asked to pay a deposit in advance. water, energy, gas are cheap.

Food is really affordable, you can spend aproximately $500 per week if you buy at a supermarket. If you want to eat out, it costs between $150 to $250 it depends on the kind of restaurant you want to eat.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Guadalajara? Is there any advice you can give?

Guadalajara is a big city so there's plenty of options to choose from, you can live in an apartment and find some roomies or you can find a boarding house, it really depends on your budget and what you like. But I highly reccomend renting an apartment which has a good location (near bus stops, supermarkets, restaurants, banks, etc) because sometimes the rent can be cheap but the apartment is located far from the hot spots and unfortunately, distances here in Guadalajara are not that close, maybe you're used to go everywhere by foot or riding your bicycle but here you're going to have to use transportation most of the time.

Is it good to eat out in Guadalajara? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes! Definitely, I eat out almost every weekend with my friends, I usually visit restaurants at Providencia neighborhood, there are a lot of restaurant/bars you can choose from, that is a very cosmopolitan area, you can find from typical tacos to italian food, or burgers and shakes.

There are also other establishments around the city, "Los Sarapes" is a very well known restaurant chain of tacos so you should definitely visit that place, also "Karnes garibaldi" is one of the most traditional restaurants in the city where they serve Mexican food. There are also a couple of places where you can find foodtruck parks, I recommend you visit "Punto Picnic".

There's a lot of options, you can even find some good restaurants at some malls.

Is the nightlife good in Guadalajara? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is pretty fun cool, if you want to go to chilled bars where you can chat and have a good time, go to Chapultepec and walk around until you find a place you like, or if you're looking for something wilder and want to dress up well, the fanciest nightclubs are located at the Andares and Puerta de Hierro zone, clubs usually close at 4am.
