What is it like to live in Groningen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Groningen is a real student city. Everywhere you walk you see students and this makes the city so vibrant. It isn't the biggest city in The Netherlands, but definitely the best. There are many things you can do, from searching for culture to partying until 8 in the morning. Everything is possible in Groningen!

What is the student lifestyle like in Groningen?

The student life is great, when you live in a student house you will get to meet new people and maybe they will even become your friends. Next to school you can go do sports, go out, have drinks with your friends or just explore the city. There is a chill vibe in the city, what makes it amazing to live here. Many students go to the ACLO to sport but you can also take a subscription to a gym in the neighbourhood.

How much does it cost to live in Groningen?

Most of the rooms in a student house are around 300-350 euros a month. Your own appartment is way more expensive, around 600 euros a month.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Groningen? Is there any advice you can give?

No, it is not difficult to find a room in Groningen. There is a website called Kamernet, here you can find many rooms. There are different pages on Facebook as well where you can search for a room/appartment.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is amazing, there are many restaurants with different dishes from different countries. If you want to try something Dutch, you should go to the FeBo, this is a snack corner at the Grote Markt and try a "kroket" or "frikandel".

What places would you recommend visiting in Groningen?

First of all, you should climb the Martini Tower at the Grote Markt, you can buy a ticket for 2 euros at the tourist information.

Another thing you can do is to go around the city with a tour guide, here you see many places not all of the tourists go to.

The third thing that you should visit are all of the old, small streets in the centre. Next to the Vismarkt you will find small streets with different shops.

Is it good to eat out in Groningen? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, it is really good to eat out in Groningen. Most of the places aren't very expensive (around 10-15 euros for a meal). Places that you should visit are; "De Uurwerker" (Uurwerkersplein 1, Groningen), "De Drie Gezusters" (very famous at the Grote Markt) and "Flinder's Cafe" (Nieuweweg 2, Groningen).

Is the nightlife good in Groningen? Where is good to go?

Groningen is a real student city. There are many cafes/clubs/pubs where you can go. Most of these cafes are in the area of the Poeleplein (Poele square).

If you like hiphop, R&B, urban you should go to the "&ZO" (Poelestraat 53, Groningen) or to "Donovans" (Peperstraat 10, Groningen).

If you like pop/rock/songs that you can sing along with, you should go to "Shooters" (Peperstraat 4, Groningen), "Oceans 41" (Grote Markt 41, Groningen) or "Het Feest" (Peperstraat 7, Groningen).

What advice would you give future students heading to Groningen?

Start searching early for a room, because they are gone very fast. Enjoy the student life, and try to meet with Dutchies to learn the culture! Everyone (especially the students) are very open and would love to show you things or to go out. So don't hesitate to talk to someone!
