There are 50.000 students. This already says a lot. A very student-friendly city with a lot of pubs bars and clubs. There are many international students and everyone speaks English.

How much does it cost to live in Groningen?

Groningen is one of the cheapest cities in the Netherlands. You can have for example a large pizza (be full) in a restaurant for 5-7 euros. Rent cost about 300-400 for a room depending on the quality, while apartments start at 650 all-inclusive up to 1000+.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Groningen? Is there any advice you can give?

Indeed it is not an easy thing. Students sometimes are left home-less or do couch-surf. Start looking early and as soon as you find a place, just reserve it. Don't say I will think about it, someone else is gonna book it right after you.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Many Italian and Asian restaurants, as well as fast-food and doners places.

What places would you recommend visiting in Groningen?

Groninger Forum; The largest bouldering tower in the EU; De Drie Gezusters: the largest pub in Europe; Martini Tower; The historic city center.

For cheap food, you can visit Pastafabriek and Happy Italy near the city center. There are few exceptionally interesting Asian restaurants, a bit costly but pleasurable.

Is the nightlife good in Groningen? Where is good to go?

You can party till 6 am in the morning every on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

What advice would you give future students heading to Groningen?

Don't hesitate, just go, it is the city with the best student life in the Netherlands. Study well in the library or at home every week and go out on the weekend. You will unforgettable moments for sure.
