What is it like to live in Groningen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Living in Groningen is a wonderful experience, it's probably the best city to live in if you are a student. There is something to do and there is a great supply of bars and clubs. There are also a lot of restaurants and places to drink a cup of coffee. In short, very nice!

What is the student lifestyle like in Groningen?

There is such a vast amount of students in Groningen, that it is almost all you see on the streets. Everywhere you see students on a bicycle. Bars and clubs are open every day so you can party all you want. Clubs and bars stay open as long as they want.

How much does it cost to live in Groningen?

An average 1 person room is about ~350 euros and you can add another ~350 euros for you cost of living. This, of course, depends on how much of a big spender you are.

There is a large number of student rooms for rent in Groningen. The best website to find them and to get in touch with the owner is kamernet.nl

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are a lot of different types of restaurants in Groningen. Most of them are with 'not Dutch' dishes. The food in restaurants is not cheap and it's going to add up when you go to a restaurant a few times a month. With this page you can order food from takeaway places and they deliver it you your room. My absolute favorite place to eat is LaCubanita, it's a tapas restaurant that has delicious food.

What places would you recommend visiting in Groningen?

I would recommend getting a bicycle to get around the city and just cycle through the inner city. There are some great buildings to see and you can stop at some nice places for a cup of coffee.

Is the nightlife good in Groningen? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is great. Around the Grote Markt are a lot of clubs and bars. Peperstraat and Poelestraat are the most popular streets by far.

What advice would you give future students heading to Groningen?

Make sure you don't have a room too far from the city center, that is where all the fun is. Some outer parts of the city are like living in a village.
