What is the student lifestyle like in Groningen?

Groningen is a perfect city for the students. There are a lot of comfortable places for study at the University of Groningen and its library. The library is amazing, here you will find all that you need for making your studying process easy and productive.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Groningen to other students?

I recommend Groningen and RUG without any hesitations! The city has its special atmosphere and beauty. It is a really nice place not only for exchange period of study but for living there. The University of Groningen can suggest you all that you need to be a happy student! The city and RUG will make you fall in love with them!

What is the food like?

The fast food is widespread, especially fish.

Stroop waffles! These Dutch sweets are best waffles I've ever tried but be careful, you can become addicted to their taste!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Groningen?

To find a room in Groningen was really a challenge for me! The accommodation is a bit expensive; one room can cost you 300-450 euro per month.

I found my room for 345 euro via Kamernet (but you have to buy an account for using it).

P. S. There are lots of Groups on Facebook, that can help you to find a place! Try them.

How much does it cost to live in Groningen?

My scholarship was 800 euro. It could be better if I had extra 100 euro, but in general, it was enough for housing, food, travelling and some clothes.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The Dutch language is a bit too hard in pronunciation. You can be surprised how Dutch people pronounce "Groningen"!

There is a Dutch course, but if you want to join, don't miss it at the beginning of the semester.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Groningen?

There are too many night clubs and pubs in Groningen and all of them are different. I would recommend trying most of them and chose the best one for you and your company.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Groningen in the future?

Be careful on the road!

Be ready to cycle and don't be afraid if you have never been on a bike)

Don't miss the Introduction week and join to Erasmus Student Network

You can get really cheap train tickets for your trips in the Netherlands by using Group on Facebook (Group-tickets Groningen -(place of your destination)

Enjoy every moment of your stay in this amazing city!
