Erasmus Experience in Groningen, Netherlands by Fran
Why did you choose to go to Groningen, Netherlands?
I was looking for a destination with a good level of English and good education.
How long does the bursary last? How much money did you receive as support?
The bursary lasts 7 months although my stay is for 10 months and I only receive support from the European Union.

The student life is very good. It is basically a student city with both Dutch and international students.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Groningen to other students?
If you are looking for a good level of education and a university party life, then Groningen is the ideal city.
How is the country's food?
Traditional dishes here are bitterballen, kroketten, stroopwafels and also poffertjes.
Did it cost you to find accommodation in Groningen?
I found accommodation through SSH, a company which has various student residencies and recommended by the University.
How much does it cost to live in Groningen?
I pay €320 per month for residency and food prices are similar to Spain. Going out to party can be quite cheap because there are many bars and clubs here in Groningen that are free entry and the beer (which is what most people drink) is well priced.
How is the language? Did you attend a course at the University?
Here, everyone speaks English and at a good level, from children at the age of 10 years old to older people, therefore there is no problem with communicating, although it is always good to know some Dutch phrases to feel local.
What is the most economical way to arrive in Groningen from your city?
I got a cheap flight from Madrid to Schiphol and from there you can take the train to Groningen for 7 euros if you buy group tickets for 10 people. There are many Facebook groups for this so it isn't too much of a problem, although it is necessary to pay with a Dutch account.

Sunny beach, kokomo, oost, or whichever place you see in the centre, all have a good atmosphere and are open almost every day of the week until 6.
