In many churches of Mystras, there were Byzantine frescoes with stories of saints depicted in vivid colours, unfortunately a bit bleached over time, but hey, who are we to complain about such works of art?
The churches had a clearly Orthodox style with round arches; in the background, you see the castle on top.
Some of the buildings had to undergo restoration or preservation work ... understandable after centuries!
With this majestic view of the city and the castle, we went on to see SPARTA! (Wait for it ...)
