Schloss Eggenberg - Wonderland production

Hello all!

I'm back, and ready to tell my story in Wonderland. The title of this post can be a bit strange, it is even for me. But I can't illustrate better what a deep and immersive feeling of astonishment I felt in the castle and the garden of Eggenberg. Eggenberg Castle is on the route of tram 1, only 20 minute journey from Jakominiplatz. Ready, set, go!

When I first got off the tram, I found myself in the middle of the suburb, surrounded by usual houses and block of flats with Arabians, Africans, all in all foreigners. That's quite common, because every city's peripheria looks like this. Socially and infrastructurally not maximally developed. Anyway, I'm not mentioning this to say that it was bothering me, only I felt a bit disappointed by the surroundings, I mean I just couldn't figure out, how a castle would fit in this environment. However, I started my walk towards the castle, following the directions showed by my map. The houses and the noises started to slowly disappear, and I got closer to a greener, friendlier environment.

Suddenly, I found myself in front of a giant white storied gate, where I felt so tiny, I was even scared to enter it. I paid 2 euros entrance fee, then began my walk in the courtyard. I really felt comfortable there, because due to the fact that this destination is at the city peripheria, it wasn't full of selfie-maker tourists. It was the garden of peace and harmony. Green infinite lawn-carpet, bird tweet, fluffy sunbeams playing with the shadows between the braches. Only the ancient plane trees remember every story which took happened in the garden since centuries. They are the secret-keepers of what have happened in Schloss Eggenberg since the beginning of time.

Comparing with other imperial gardens, or castle gardens, Eggenberg has an extra point. And if you like surprises, this is the perfect place for hanging around. I won't tell what the surprises are, only some little details about them. They are green and blue, have 2 feet, love pet food, and love to be photographed by visitors.

After the beautiful walk in the green labyrinth, I arrived to the entrance of the great Eggenberg Castle. The gate to the inside court was opened, so I went in, and continued to be amazed by the gorgeous building and it's yard. Next to the castle there is a great flower garden built up thematically. Every section of the garden represents a planet, and it's constituted by different flowers. It's even called Planetary Garden. Mars part of the garden was an area with plenty of roses, the Sun region was planted with sunflowers and so on. I've never ever felt a flower fragrance as powerful as at the flower garden of the Eggenberg Castle.

Ideal for romantic walks due to its theatrical environment, optimal for yoga, reading, relaxation and picnic thanks to the huge green grass and silent tree oasis, the closeness of nature. Perfect for dreaming and letting yourself mesmerized in the castle-created atmosphere. Untouched beauty, Austrian history's and architecture's surviving geniality.

P. S. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I'm not a professional photographer.

Thanks for reading. Bis später! Dóra.
