Graz- The marvelous Saturday trip (2)

Hello all!

As I promised, here comes the second part describing my fabulous Saturday. More exactly, my first free day in Graz. When I got up in the morning after I ate a few bites of my breakfast, I left the dorm with a map, some snacks and a big bottle of water, and arrived home in the evening. I walked at least 15 kilometres. I went to bed exhausted but happier than ever.

After visiting the Bazilika and the Campus I walked down till Wickenburggasse, and a huge hill arised on my left side out of the horizont. It was the great Schlossberg. This hill can be climbed from two opposite sides: from the city centre and from Wickenburggasse. I think most tourists choose the first option, because they can also use the elevator up to the top, and from that part it takes less time to climb. But I have chosen the harder, steeper, wilder trail. I could enjoy a walk in silence, listening to the birds' tweet in the forest and greeting the few people who walked their dogs or did nordic walking upwards.

Schlossberg is located in the city centre, this way from the top of it I could have a beautiful 360 degree panorama view, which unfortunately can't be illustrated by some photos taken by a mobile phone. It's a must see!

Can you see the Museum of Arts and the little Island on Mur river? The Kunsthaus is definitely a landmark of Graz. It's called: 'The friendly alien', you have to visit it to find out why. The artificial glass island on the Mur is a sophisticated and stylish place, where you can eat or drink a coffee while watching the river.

After spending at least one hour by staring at the landscape, and the distant mountains I continued my way towards the old Clock Tower.

Under the Clock Tower there's a beautiful garden with flowers. I'm not sure if I ever felt a flower fragrancy as strongly as there. I think Alice's Wonderland smells the same. Here, on the top of Schlossberg Hill I saw Polish, Croatian, Hungarian, Russian, Ukrainian, Italian and French tourists, so it's a quite crowded place, but not annoying at all.

After walking down the mountain (on the opposite site of course) I found myself in the middle of the Altstadt (old town). I wanted to try a traditional cake or bakery product, so I entered Hofbäckerei Edegger-Tax, which I found out that it's the oldest bakery in the city, from 1569. I ate apple cake, and still can't find the proper words and superlatives to describe it, so perfect it was.

The prices are fair good, top quality and tasty implementation. Visiting once is not enough, I will definitely go back to try other products too.

After those beautiful cake eating 10 minutes were over, I continued my journey. The city centre and Eggenberg Castle were left.

P. S. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I'm not a professional photographer.

Thank you for reading. Bis später! Dóra.
