Experience in Granada, Spain by Rocio

What is it like to live in Granada? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Granada is one of the best university cities in Andalusia, (I think it's the best one). It's very studenty, as it's full of students from all over Spain. It's quite small compared to other cities and it's very cheap to live there.

What is the student lifestyle like in Granada?

It's very good, there's a campus (Cartuja) where almost all of the courses are based and the others are based in the city centre. There are a lot of university parties, cheap pubs and events.

How much does it cost to live in Granada?

It's cheap. The city is famous for its tapas, since you can get two drinks and two pretty big tapas for four euros. There are also some very affordable restaurants that are a bit more chic.

On the other hand, the taxis are very cheap and they're worth taking as it makes getting from place to place very quick.

Was it difficult to find accommodation in Granada? Can you offer any advice?

Not at all. You can rent a flat for around €150 to €300 a month, depending on what the flat is like. There are residences that have everything included or not, depending on what you want, called the Carlos V and then there are the Colegios Mayores of which there are many throughout Granada, there are ones that are mixed and ones that are separated by gender.

What is the food like there? What are some of your favourite dishes?

Well, like I said before, it's very good for the tapas.

Where would you recommend to visit in Granada?

  • La Alhambra
  • El paseo de los Tristes
  • The cathedral
  • El parque de la ciencia
  • Gran Granada fountain (paseo de salón)
  • The historic centre

  • D'platos
  • El Establo

  • Los Grifos y Tapas
  • Seven Cats Cafe
  • La Marmita
  • El Mexicano (on calle Pedro Antonio)

Where would you recommend for a night out in Granada?

  • The Mae West
  • The Boom Boom Room
  • The Campus
  • Wall Street (pubs with cheap drinks)
  • Vogue and lots more

You can go out any day of the week in Granada, because there's always something going on, although Tuesday is the best day and Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at the Mae West. There are also parties in the day time, like the Fiesta de San Lucas or la Fiesta de la Primavera (Springtime festival).

Do you have any advice for students coming to Granada in the future?

Well, I would recommend Granada to anyone who is thinking about coming here.
