Experience in Granada, Spain by Mireia
What is living in Granada like? Would you recommend it?
As a university student, the quality of teaching I wouldn't recommend, but if you come to Spain to party, get to know people and live cheaply, Granada has it all.
What is the student atmosphere like in Granada like?
Half of the population of Granada are students, and 1/3 of those are international students, so it's not hard to get to know people, you can get to learn about Spanish culture, and at the same time, learn about Italian, German, Chinese, and Mexican culture which are completely different cultures from Spanish.
How much does it cost to live in Granada?
I decided to live in the Camino de Ronda district, which is in the centre of the party scene, and where the rent for students goes up a bit, but with around 350-400 euros a month, you can pay for rent, bills, food and partying.
Was it hard to find accommodation in Spain? Could you offer any advice?
It wasn't hard at all for me, I looked for a place with a good environment, and especially looked for central heating, but I didn't really care about anything else. I'd recommend living around Gonzalo Gallas, Camino de Ronda or Pedro Antonio, if you're Erasmus and like to party.
What's the food like? What are some of your favourite dishes?
In Spain, we have the best diet, the Mediterranean diet. It's easy to get fat, but to get fat healthily - don't worry, with tapas from Granada, you'll eat well. In Granada, for 5 euros, you can get two pitchers of Tinto de Verano or Beer, and you'd still have enough to go out to eat!
Which places would you recommend visiting in Granada?
Everything, literally everything, find time, because you can't go to Granada without visiting the Alhambra, the science park, the Paseo de los Tristes, the Acera del Darro... and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Which places would you recommend for going out to in Granada?
For Erasmus students, I'd recommend Camborio, it's the main place for meeting people, but my favourite place is the club, Campus.
What advice would you give to future students coming to Granada?
Come and have fun!
