Erasmus Experience in Granada, Spain by Julien

Why did you decide to go to Granada in Spain?

I don't have a clue... I didn't know anything about Granada before I arrived, I had only heard of it.

How long was your stay? How much financial aid did you receive?

I stayed in Granada for one year, with a grant from the SEMP programme (similar to the Erasmus scheme) from which I received around 230 euros a month.

What is student life like in Granada?

It has a great atmosphere, it's a small town with a population of 300, 000 and 70, 000 students... things are changing!

Would you recommend the town and the University of Granada to other students?

Why, of course!

What's the food like there?

Spanish food really suits meat eaters, but you can still eat pretty much anything (vegetarian food included). It's always good to remember that in Granada, tapas is free (you buy a drink, and you get a tapas with it for free).

No, it's very easy to find accommodation.

How much does it cost to live in Granada?

With around 600 euros a month, you can live very well... if you're spending more, you're living like a king!

How do you find learning the language? Are there any classes organised by the university itself?

There are a large number of language schools here, and within the university, there's a language school (The Centre for Modern Languages - UGR).

What's the cheapest way of getting to Granada from where you live?

Getting a flight from Geneva to Malaga, and then getting a bus for around 1 hour and a half.

There are loads of places for all different tastes!

When it comes to eating out in Granada, where would you recommend?

There are places for everything you desire, all over.

The Alhambra, without a doubt. But in Andalusia, you've got a lot to choose from (Seville isn't very far, Cordoba isn't much further, and the Sierra Nevada mountains are very close).
