Why did you choose to go to Granada, Spain?
It was my dream to live in Spain. I chose Granada because of location, weather, good food, flamenco.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship was only for 6 month. I was working in a company. I received around 420 euros/months. Grant depends of country that you living in.
What is the student lifestyle like in Granada?
You have to come and you will never forget it!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Granada to other students?
Of course. It was the best 6 months of my life!
What is the food like?
I love Spanish food.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Granada?
Yes - because I didn't know Spanish at that time so it took me 5 days to find some room. If you speak Spanish, you can stay your first two days in a hostel and you can find many advertisement on the walls in town centre and close to your faculty.
How much does it cost to live in Granada?
Rent a room more or less 280 euros/months + Internet (10 euros - we shared the costs) + food 30 - 50 euros/week (everything depend of you) + cost like night live.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes, it is easy - I recommend to rent room with Spanish people - that you have to speak Spanish. It is the best way to learn languages.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Granada from your city?
Sometimes the cheapest way is to get to:
- Madrid and take ALSA bus to Granada (5 h cost more or less 17 euros).
- Malaga and take ALSA bus to Granada (1, 5 hrs cost more or less 12 euros).
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Granada?
- Mae West (C. C. Neptuno): Arabial (Centro Comercial Neptuno). Granada.
- Granada 10: Cárcel Baja, 10. Granada (Centro).
- El Camborio: Camino del Sacromonte, 47. Granada (Albayzín).
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Granada?
For me the best place to eat traditional Spanish food is Antigua Bodega Castañeda, Calle de Elvira, 5, 18010 Granada, España (+34 958 22 97 06).
Bohemia Jazz-Café (Jazz & Blues), Santa Teresa, 17. Granada (otras zonas) and in Albayzin you can find very good places to eat and close to paseo de los tristes!
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
- Alhambra Palace and the Generalife
- Albayzín and Sacromonte
- Realejo the Jewish district at the time of the Nasride Granada
- The Cartuja
- Plaza Bib Rambla
- The Granada Science Park - you need the whole day and is very good
- Sierra Nevada
- Alpuharra
- Monachil - i love it!
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Granada in the future?
Even you are from EU take your passport - you need it when you want to buy SIM card!
