What is it like to live in Glasgow? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Glasgow is an international city. It is very diverse in both its architecture and the lifestyle it provides. I would recommend Glasgow as a place to study as it is student-friendly, and there is a lot of things to do.

What is the student lifestyle like in Glasgow?

Glasgow is very student-friendly, both in prices and with things to do. There are lots of cheap places to grab something to eat, cinema, music gigs, music festivals, shops, nightclubs, sports facilities etc. Anything you would need at home, you could find in Glasgow. The student lifestyle is centred, predominately, around cheap alcohol, and cheap nights out. If you stay close to the city centre you really won't struggle for things to do.

How much does it cost to live in Glasgow?

Accommodation usually ranges from around £400-£600 for students. For food, there is a range of supermarkets to choose from which offer different variations in prices for different food items. There's also Chinese markets and fresh food markets if that's your sort of thing.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Glasgow? Is there any advice you can give?

Accommodation shouldn't be that difficult if you start looking at the right time. I would suggest looking around March/April time for September, and September/October time for January. There are lots of student-based websites advertising accommodation. If you are looking for accommodation at or near a specific university, join a Facebook group for the university - students advertise all of the time!

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food is really varied, you can have anything you want, ranging from international dishes to Scottish breakfasts, and Sunday roasts.

What places would you recommend visiting in Glasgow?

I would recommend visiting the parks in Glasgow if it's a nice day, or some people like to visit the museums.

Is it good to eat out in Glasgow? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Eating out in Glasgow is not a problem, there are lots of cheap places to grab something nice to eat, and more expensive places if you're looking for something more. I would definetly check out the west end for small cafés and restaurants, and also princess square.

Is the nightlife good in Glasgow? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is very good. I would suggest going to viper on a Monday night, kushion on a Tuesday, polo or bamboo on a Wednesday, jelly baby (abc) on a Thursday, and you could try anywhere on a Friday or Saturday. For cheap bars go to Firewater (90p vodkas on a Thursday), the Arc, Driftwood, or Tingle (shot bar).

What advice would you give future students heading to Glasgow?

Make sure to enjoy the nightlife and definetly check out some of the night places in Glasgow, or surrounding areas. The capital of Scotland (Edinburgh) is only a train or bus journey away, where you can see the castle, parliament, and Royal Mile, and perhaps the zoo.
