One Day in Glasgow

Glasgow is a city on the River Clyde in Scotland’s western Lowlands. It’s a mesmerising city known for its Victorian and art nouveau architecture. It has a rich legacy from the eighteenth century due to trade and shipping business. It’s a home of institutions, cultural hub including the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and National Theatre of Scotland and renowned museums.

It’s not so difficult to reach Glasgow. We can take a train from Edinburg Station to Glasgow Station and it takes around forty five minutes to one hour to reach. As per the price value of tickets, it’s around twenty five to thirty pounds roundtrip.

I took a 9:15 am train from the Edinburg Waverley Train station and it took me approximately fifty minutes to arrive at Glasgow’s Queen Street train station. After reaching there, I had my breakfast at The Wilson Street Pantry where I ordered an avocado toast with a cup of coffee. I also had porridge with raspberry jam on top which was very good. All along Glasgow is some amazing examples of street art. Don’t miss to take a look at it.After roaming around for a while, I went to the most famous sites of the city, a stunning gothic cathedral of the twelfth century, Glasgow Cathedral. It has a tomb of Saint Mungo,  the patron of the city. It is just fifteen minutes walk from the city centre so I reached there around 11:30 am. I was awestruck with the architecture of the Cathedral. It took me around forty five minutes to visit the Cathedral.

Then, I walked towards Necropolis, which is next to Cathedral. It is a bridge which connects the cemetery and the Cathedral, also known as Bridge of Sighs. It is located on a hill, and the view from there is beautiful. From there, I walked to George Square and City chambers. It is named after King George III.In the Past, the square was a muddy hollow used for slaughtering horses, but after the eighteenth and nineteenth century, the square started to get it’s current look.

The architecture of the City chambers, is to look at. After that, I stopped for lunch. I was really tired and hungry so I snacked on my club sandwich and chips which i had prepared in the morning and packed it for this day trip.I was in a mood for something sweet so i went Tantrum Doughnuts. It’s a must to visit this store. The doughnuts are fresh and delicious. Then I visited the University of Glasgow,  which is such a magical place and it’s like exactly out of Harry Potter movies. I was mesmerised with it’s grandeur and then i ended up the day trip by visiting the botanic gardens. I took a walk around and enjoyed the sunset. I was very lucky that the weather was clear.

Glasgow is a beautiful city and I was unfortunate to not have more time to spend and explore. The architecture, coupled with the weather, really seems straight out of a fairytale. It is a must visit city, and I will recommend visiting for at least two days!
