Glasgow is one of the best cities in the world to live and work! It has all of the best shops, bars, clubs and historical sites so there is a perfect balance between old and new Scotland - perfect for all ages!

What is the student lifestyle like in Glasgow?

Student life is one of the best in the UK. Glasgow can offer everything to students and is one of the best places to study. This is from self-experience as I am a current student at the University of Glasgow.

How much does it cost to live in Glasgow?

Glasgow is of similar cost to all of the big cities in the UK. It costs on average £10 to eat out in an average-excellent restaurant. There are obviously McDonald's, Burger King and lots of other fast food outlets which would offer a cheaper alternative. Nightlife in Glasgow is not that expensive. There are always lots of good deals, particularly for students to gain discounts on alcohol and entry into nightclubs. In Glasgow, there is a restaurant, pub, bar, club for every occasion!

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Glasgow? Is there any advice you can give?

Glasgow is such a big city that it is usually quite easy to find accommodation. There are hundreds of websites that will enable you to look for flats. I would recommend you to find accommodation before arriving in Glasgow because if not, it would mean staying in a hostel and this is not an experience I, myself, would like.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

In Glasgow, you can eat any type of food you want! There is Italian, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Spanish, Greek and so many more. For a tourist coming to Glasgow, they would have to try haggis - the traditional food of Scotland- it is also a favourite of mine!

What places would you recommend visiting in Glasgow?

  • Riverside Museum - the history of transport within Scotland. Museum is located just by the River Clyde, lovely views over the Clyde.
  • Kelvingrove Art Galleries - an amazing collection of art from around the world - something to suit everyone.
  • Science Centre - A more modern museum showcasing science innovations - a really interesting experience.
  • Xscape - a leisure centre with cinema, bowling and amusements - fun for all.
  • Hampden Park - the national football stadium of Scotland - particularly good if you have an interest in football!
  • Glasgow Cathedral - a beautiful Church, well worth a visit!

Other places: Pavilion Theatre, Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, House for an Art Lover, Glasgow Green, Glasgow Botanic Gardens, SSE Hydro, National Piping Centre, Theatre Royal, People's Palace, George Square, Kelvinhall, Pollok House, Kelvingrove Park.

Is it good to eat out in Glasgow? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes, as I said before Glasgow has a restaurant for everyone's tastes. Whether you want Scottish or Indian food, Italian or Chinese, Spanish or Greek, French or African, you will find the restaurant you want in Glasgow! There is also something for every price range whether you want a quick snack or a luxury 3 course meal. Some of my favourite's are "Zizzi's"- an Italian restaurant set in a cosmopolitan location in the centre of Royal Exchange Square. "Oran Mor"- a converted church, now a Scottish restaurant located in the heart of the trendy West End of the city - the food is of high quality at an affordable price.

Is the nightlife good in Glasgow? Where is good to go?

I love the nightlife in Glasgow. It has such a good range and variety of people, music and atmosphere. If you want a good party night out, "Campus" is the place to be. It is the heart of student partying and I would definitely recommend it. There are many bars and pubs that allow for socialising and catching up with fellow students. A few places I like to go are: "Wetherspoons", "Bunker", "Firewater", "Driftwood", "O'Couture", "The Hall", "One Up" and so many more!

What advice would you give future students heading to Glasgow?

If you are coming to Glasgow, make sure you have fun! The people in Glasgow are very friendly and are always up for a laugh! Grab the opportunity with both hands and have an amazing experience.
