Why did you choose to go to Glasgow, United Kingdom?

Mainly because of Harry Potter, to be honest. The University of Glasgow looks just like Hogwarts! But also because Scotland is a beautiful country and Scots are said to be the friendliest people in the UK (which I think is true).

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I am staying only during the first semester and my scholarship is 475 euro per month (which is not enough).

What is the student lifestyle like in Glasgow?

Student lifestyle is great. There are a lot of parties going on every week and a lot of interesting events.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Glasgow to other students?

Of course! The Uni is awesome, they help you with anything you need. There are a lot of Erasmus and International events the first couple of weeks, so it is great to make friends. Everyone is really nice and friendly. And if you have ever heard that Glasgow is an ugly city, it is not true. People make Glasgow and it is great!

What is the food like?

You can find any kind of food in Glasgow. In addition, there are a lot of free food events for students, especially during the first couple of weeks in September.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Glasgow?

Yes. The University does not offer accommodation for Erasmus students staying only during one semester. Therefore, I had to find an apartment, which is pretty far away from the city center and 30 minutes from uni. However, I have some friends who did find uni accommodation or a residence for only one semester.

How much does it cost to live in Glasgow?

Glasgow and the UK in general are expensive compared to other countries. The lowest rent you can find is 400£ (bills excluded) and residences are from 450£ up to 800£ or more er month. It is easy to find cheap food, the Fraser Building in the main campus of the Uni offers good meals for only 3£.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Yes, I think there are some courses available. And yes, the Scottish accent can be a bit difficult to understand sometimes. However, people will always try to speak slowly to make you understand. I love the Scottish accent and slang though!

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Glasgow from your city?

It really depends from where you travel.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Glasgow?

Sauchiehall street! There are loads of clubs there (The Garage, Firewater, Mango... ) You can find any music style you like in this street. There are alo a few places in the city center, like Sub Club.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The University of Glasgow, the Necropolis, the city center, a lot of museums, the Cathedral...

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Glasgow in the future?

Scotland is full of magic and myths, so I recommend to travel as much as possible to every single place in Scotland. At least one trip with Student Tours Scotland is a must if you come to Glasgow. Gary, the guide, is just hilarious.
