Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Gijon?

Well, besides the fee at Erasmusu not really.

How much does it cost to live in Gijon?

The rent can go from 170 up to 350 Euros depending on the comfort one desire. I paid 250 for a beautiful room, having all bills included. I also cooked for myself so in the end I was able to get under 400 - 450 Euros. One way in a bus to uni, costs around 90 cents no matter where you get in or get out. Though for some interested in walking, in case of campus Viesques in Gijon the distance is walkable around 30 mins to the city.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

University of Oviedo provides some very good Spanish courses at various levels. Some are located at campus in Gijon and some at campus in Oviedo. For reference, google Casa de Lenguas - Universidad de Oviedo.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Gijon from your city?

The Asturias airport (OVD) is very close, costs 8 Euros to get to Gijon and lasts under an hour. There are many flights from Madrid to this airport, as well as from Barcelona, Lisboa, and London.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

I had the opportunity to spend the summer in Gijon and since Gijon is a well-known tourist location, there are countless of festivals and other similar events throughout the summer, this goes on during the year as well though in a smaller scale.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Gijon in the future?

Very nice city with lovely people. The number of erasmus students is not that high, and so everyone knows everyone after a couple weeks. An advice, take an umbrella as it gets quite wet in the winter. Made some great friends here.
