I live in Belgium, and I have been studying in Ghent for the past 4 years. And I loved it! Ghent is the city I recommend the most when you're a student in Belgium.

My first 3 years studying there, I went by train from my hometown to Ghent. This was not very far, but if you live far away from Ghent, you can rent a place to stay or you can stay at a dorm. We call that 'kot' in Belgium. You don't always have to live far away to live in a dorm, because the previous year I lived in a dorm! I searched a dorm at ikot.be or kotatgent.be, and found a nice house I could share with 7 other people. It was around €230 per month, but that's quite cheap for Ghent, so actually I was really lucky with my place. Other places in Ghent cost around €300-€400, and when you want an apartment for yourself with your own bathroom, kitchen... it's around €400-€500.

But going to live in a dorm was the best choice I made in a few years! I was very happy I could come back from school (because my dorm was only 6 minutes by bycicle from my school) and relax a bit or could hang out with my friend, without leaving early to go home.

Another reason why Ghent is so great is the nightlife. It starts around 9 pm, when you can have a drink in a lot of bars around the centre or in 'Overpoort' (the famous street with a lot of places to go out), and when you're ready to go out (mostly that's around 12 p. m. or 1 a. m. ) you can go to Overpoort, the Carlatan, Sioux... all are great places to party when you're in Ghent. If you're hungry during going out, you can always eat the best fries of Belgium at 'De Gouden Saté' in Overpoort. You have to ask for an 'Julienke', because that's the speciallity and it tastes so good when you're a little bit drunk (also when you're not drunk of course).

By day Ghent is also beautiful. There are a lot of beautiful buildings and houses. And you can take a boat trip too. Walking in Ghent is also very nice because there's always something to do and you will never get bored! You should also taste the 'Gentse neuzen' when your at the Korenmarkt. This is a typical candy from Ghent and it's also really good.

The schools in Ghent have also a very good quality. My first 3 years of studying I went to Artevelde university college. I had my master degree and I'm very happy about the courses and my study in general! Right now I study at Ghent University because I want to get my master degree and also this school is really good! It's actually the best University of Belgium! (69th place! ).

So if you're still in doubt about studying in Ghent; don't hesitate and just go! Everyday in Ghent is an adventure (in a good way of course! ). I hope you will like it too!
