What is it like to live in Ghent? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Ghent is a lovely city where everyone gets around by bike. There are loads of beautiful canals and buildings. Around the city is a lot of green and it’s easy to get to other cities in Belgium by taking the train!

What is the student lifestyle like in Ghent?

A lot of libraries to study, a lot of nightlife and a very good university!

How much does it cost to live in Ghent?

Prices for a room vary between € 300 to 500. The student restaurants are quite cheap, as well as the supermarkets.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ghent? Is there any advice you can give?

Check the facebookgroups, the special sites (like kot@gent) and just walk around and look for TE HUUR advertisements.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

A lot of different cuisines I guess!

What places would you recommend visiting in Ghent?

Gravesteen, the museums and chilling in the sun by the canals!

Is it good to eat out in Ghent? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

The frietketel (fries), komkommertijd, appelier etc have lovely vegetarian options.

Is the nightlife good in Ghent? Where is good to go?

Charlatan and Vooruit always have nice parties.

What advice would you give future students heading to Ghent?

Make sure you have a bike! Otherwise it’s often not too far to walk, but a few campus sites lie quite far apart!
