What is it like to live in Gent? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Gent is a really nice city to live, it has a great atmosphere! There is beautiful architecture from various time periods and styles (great place to be for an architecture student like me). It has nice museums, enough places to get a drink or have dinner and nice places to go out at night. I feel really save here! I would recommend everybody to come here, but you have to keep in mind that the living expenses are quite high. Rent is not to expensive, but groceries are.

What is the student lifestyle like in Gent?

There is enough to do for a student, everyday in the week.

How much does it cost to live in Gent?

Like I said: rent is doable, but food is expensive. You can find a nice room really close to the centre (but everything is close if you ask me, Gent is not a big city) for about €300-€400.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Gent? Is there any advice you can give?

There is enough accommodation available!

You can search on the website KOTATGENT or (I recommend) on various Facebook groups. There are a lot, if you search on Facebook for 'kamer in Gent', 'kot in Gent', 'huis in Gent' or 'appartement in Gent' you'll definitely find something!

What places would you recommend visiting in Gent?

Gravensteen, the castle in the centre of Gent', is definitely worth visiting.
