What is it like to live in Ghent? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

i've been living in Gent all my live (appart from my Erasmus stay in Italy). So YES i do love to live in Gent. I know Gent like my back pocket and it's great to walk around.
quite small city center, yet a lot to discover!

What is the student lifestyle like in Ghent?

wednesdays and thursdays are the days most students go out. But on every evening there is something to do somewhere. And that's fun about Gent

How much does it cost to live in Ghent?

Quite a bit i would guess. I live at my parents place, so that's cheaper. But life in general is quite expensive. ( i think this is a general tendency, aspecially in the crisis we're in)

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ghent? Is there any advice you can give?

It used to be difficult. but lately it became easier i heard.
walk around in the city, and call anny nummer you see ;)

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

great food. Frensh fries with stews are the bomb!
wa also have a great beer culture, and this mixed with traditional recepies is just Awesome.

What places would you recommend visiting in Ghent?

To difficult to answer.
If I name some, i would forget so many others,
But in general the whole city is wonderfull. Realy !

Is it good to eat out in Ghent? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

The more cliché spots are nice. But when you look and ask around you can find some cheap and tasty ones
Just reacently i ate a the 'Tabula Rasa' and was surprised by it!
but Multatuli is great and of course Amadeus... etc...

Is the nightlife good in Ghent? Where is good to go?

YES, it's great.
You have the more alternative area which is at the Vlasmarkt. And it's my personal favorite.
The other once is more commercial and a bit more wild i'd say. But i don't realy like that.

What advice would you give future students heading to Ghent?

enjoy it ;)
