Why did you choose to go to Ghent, Belgium?

Ghent is a city neither small nor big, it is very suitable for students. Easy to travel around and people are quite nice.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

It can change from school to school. I'm receiving a scholarship for 8 months but my mobility is 10 months which is 500€ per month.

What is the student lifestyle like in Ghent?

Erasmus Student Network Ghent organizes many events that bring you together with other international students and they are really fun. Other than that, there are a lot of places for students to hang out which is always nice.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Ghent to other students?

For me, Ghent is a really amazing city for students, I would definitely recommend it. The University of Ghent is a good quality institution.

What is the food like?

You have a good amount of choices that you can choose. Also in supermarkets.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Ghent?

No, it did not.

How much does it cost to live in Ghent?

If you leave out the travel expenses, I would say with the rent each month is 800- 850€.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

For me, Dutch is a difficult language but most people know English so it is not a problem. No, there are not language courses at KU Leuven in Ghent.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ghent from your city?

From Turkey of course by the airline.

Where would you recommend going on a night out in Ghent?

Students go out at Overpoortstraat or Vlasmarkt.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Ghent?

Sale & Pepe, Luv l’Oeuf, Soup'r, Yaki Noodle.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

In the center, there are multiple cathedrals.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Ghent in the future?

Learn how to use a bike before coming here!
