Strawberries everywhere!

Now it’s a strawberry season as it is May and little by little the strawberries are becoming more and more delicious, I mean, they have this distinguished taste which everyone likes so much. If you don’t know, I will tell you, that it’s not the real strawberry taste that you get when tasting those huge strawberries, which look so nice and beautiful, but have no real taste at all.

So, going around in the streets of Tbilisi, you will find many people just sitting outside or inside somewhere in markets or those places, where they have fruits and vegetables and selling strawberries, which they were distributed to, or they are theirs, grown in their own lands and stuff like that.

Well, to be honest, there’s nothing like your own strawberries. My grandfather used to have strawberries grown in our yard and they were very delicious, I can say. They were like heaven, and despite the fact, that they were not much, we _ the kids really loved just going on “strawberry hunting” and picking them up and just enjoying the delicious taste of each of those few strawberries that we had found there in the yard and we were very happy at that moment. You know, the hunting process itself is really entertaining and it made the strawberry taste even better.

My grandmother _ my aunt’s mother also had strawberries in her yard. They were much more than the strawberries in our yard and, so, we loved going there to my grandmother’s house and when it was somewhere the end of spring and the beginning of the summer, it was always a great time, because there were strawberries and we just had so many of them that it was all the happiness one could get as a kid.

Also, my aunt is a great cook. And she’s a great baker. So, she loves doing that stuff and she bakes lots of cakes and she just loves baking them for us, too, I can say. So whenever it was strawberry season, she used to bake us those huge cakes with strawberries and it was  a great thing for  us. We just couldn’t wait for the strawberries to ripe so that she would bake those cakes and we could enjoy them so much. Besides that, it’s my grandmother’s birthday on 29-th of May, so that’s a pretty great time for strawberries, you know, and the cake is almost always made from strawberries and that is just something you can never forget if you taste it once! Of course, I can show you some pictures of those cakes, so that you can see how beautiful they are from the outside, but you will not get how delicious they are until you taste them.

As you know, when something arrives somewhere at first they are all expensive and stuff, and so that was true about the strawberries, too. At first, it cost even 10 Laris, I guess, and then they went down to 8 and so on and so forth. But they were not tasty or have that smell or anything. However, people still bought them, as they had missed the strawberries so much, I guess. And they usually buy those strawberries for their kids, you know, because kids just love strawberries and they eat them whether they are very delicious, or not, because no one can resist strawberries!

Sugary strawberries

One of the very popular thing to do and eat strawberries here is this strawberries with sugar. That is quite simple. You just have to wash the strawberries, of course, and then you can either leave them like that, or just cut them into halves and put some of them into a bowl and then spread some sugar over them, then add another layer of strawberries and spread the sugar and so on and so forth until the strawberries are all in your bowl and covered with sugar. That’s a great thing, if you ask me. And that way you get strawberries more delicious taste and you can store them for some time, a day or two maybe. And they are very good when you store them in the fridge for some time. And the sugar melts during that time and the fridge gets it all colder and when you take them out and it them that’s just a great moment. Well, I guess, not only me, but many people do that. And, you know, when it’s sweet, everything is better eatable. So, everybody just loves that sugary strawberries. Then they have this juice, too, and you can see it in your bowl whether it’s transparent or not and I usually don’t drink that juice, but there are many people who love it and can drink it or whatever. It’s pretty delicious, though, I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that I don’t like drinking it so much, but sometimes I taste it, too. You can even use it in your creams for cakes or things like that. Or just pour it onto muffins or sponge cakes, etc. That’s really good.

So, going through the streets, you can find many different kinds of strawberries here. I guess, most of them now is from Gurjaani _ that is a town in eastern Georgia in Kakheti. I bought some strawberries from Gurjaani the day before, and they were pretty delicious, I must say. Also, there are kind of two types of strawberries. One of them are light red and have those narrow wholes or whatever for those black dots, and the other ones are more of a dark red colour and have this distinguished smell and taste and they taste wonderful, so I recommend buying those ones, as whenever I see those type of strawberries, I just buy them without doubt, because they are very delicious. They are worth every penny. I don’t really know, whether they have a name or not, or what type of strawberries they are, I haven’t really asked, but, I guess, as everything, they have their own name, too.

Strawberries for breakfast

Well, you know, strawberries are great for everything. Should it be breakfast or cakes or snacks or whatever. You can eat strawberries on your breakfast with oats and milk and that’s a pretty good combination for boosting your metabolism in the morning. Or you maybe like pancakes and besides blueberries, pancakes are really good with strawberries, too, if you want to know the truth. And, of course, crepes are delicious with strawberries, and I’m saying these, because that’s what people usually like to eat on their breakfasts until they go out for work or studies or something like that.

Strawberry Frosty  parfait

Another thing that I love very much is a strawberry parfait. Oh, and I remembered just now, how much I loved that strawberry parfait that they have in Wendy’s. it doesn’t cost much and it’s really delicious. It’s been ages since I last had one of those parfaits and, probably, I will visit any nearby Wendy’s some time soon and just grab that strawberry parfait first time this year! You know, they have pretty cool stuff when it comes to desserts and frosts and ice creams and cakes and stuff like that. Although, the prices are not very cheap or something, I mean, it would be just great  if they were a Lari cheaper or things like that, but they taste real good. And they have this Tiramisu dessert, which you should definitely try whether or not you like Tiramisu. Well, if you don’t like Tiramisu, then you probably won’t taste it, of course, but still, it’s really delicious.

Trifle with cream and strawberries

So, about those strawberries. Once I made a trifle with strawberries and my sister really loved it and, to be honest, I really loved it, too. I remembered, my aunt used to make some kind of trifles or whatever they are called, with kiwis and oranges and stuff and I really liked them. So, I just assumed what the ingredients could be and how it could be done. Well, I used to watch her prepare those trifles, but it had been ages since I last saw how she prepared them, so I didn’t really know how to make it and I was too lazy to call her. But still, my assumptions were right and everything came out great. The difference there was many, but the main thing, I guess, was that I didn’t use those cookies that she used and, instead of them, I used some biscuit, a sponge cake, if you will. The thing is, that you use that whipped cream and biscuit and strawberries to make this trifle. So, you start by placing some whipped cream in a bowl or something, then you place the biscuits (and those biscuits can be either whole or cracked into some pieces) and then the cream again and then the strawberries and you make those layers of everything. And I did that with two creams _ one was white and the other one was black _ with cacao powder. And everything was so delicious, no one could resist not tasting it. That was the moment when I realized, the best thing you can do with trifle is to add some strawberries to it. That is just the perfect combination for your trifle. There’s nothing better than the strawberries in that trifle. Nothing can make it more delicious, than those pieces of this red fruit.

Creamy tarts with strawberries

Another thing that I did with strawberries this year was to make mini tarts and put some strawberries on them. And while the tarts had this whipped cream that I usually prepare by myself, they were already delicious, I can say, but with those strawberries on them it made them even more delicious. So, the tarts I bought in some grocery store, I mean, the forms of tarts, you know, because preparing them are kind of hard and you never know whether or not you get the right ones, so it’s just easier to buy those forms, and they are really pretty, too. So, I had this whipped cream made with cocoa powder _ that’s because I just love the cocoa taste in my cream and I had added a lot of cocoa powder in it, if you want to know the truth. And then we bought some strawberries and we made that strawberries with sugar in a bowl and when I took my tarts our of the refrigerator, I just saw those strawberries and decided to give it a try and put just one of them on my tart and tasted it and it was so delicious, I almost ate the whole pack of my tarts just because of the strawberries.

You know, people just know that thing with chocolate and strawberries and you may have seen photos of strawberries in chocolate and how delicious they are in chocolate and all those stuff. But, hey, trust me, there’s no more delicious thing than strawberries in that whipped or heavy cream with cocoa! I just love that thing, and, if you try, you will love it, too. That is something that you should definitely try, because I am not lying about it and it really is very delicious!

So, the strawberries are things that are very tasty and great with everything, and they are really beautiful, too, so they can be anywhere in your dishes, desserts, decorations or whatsoever. They are just amazing!
