The introduction

Now let me tell you about one place in Ureki where you can eat and enjoy your meal. It's called Palermo and it's kind of in the middle of Ureki main road, I mean, in the middle of Ureki. It's nearby the Ureki Boulevard and it's in a good place. Well, it's the first thing you bump into when you enter Ureki beach zone and they have tasty dishes and plenty of them and many people have their dinner there.

The decor

The construction is pretty nice, they have wooden things there and the tables and chairs are wooden, too. They also have a LED TV and they show some video clips there. They also have musics and in the evenings they have a live music. So it's a pretty good place for dining and stuff like that or if you just want to sit somewhere with your family or friends and just enjoy music and Ureki ait, as it's not a closed cafe or something, I mean, it's like an open building and there are not just four walls and stuff like that, you know.

And the decorations are pretty cool, too. They have these wooden things around and some green plants and stuff like that. There are some things curved on thosr wooden pieces, such as crocodiles and fishes and the name of the restaurant "Palermo" and it's pretty awesome when you look at them. Well, the plants were pretty awesome, too, I mean, there were small palms and huge-leaved green plants, which I don't really know the name of. Or maybe I knew the name, but I can't remember if now. There were some small plants, too, of course, and in all, everything made a little change in the whole environment that people felt really comfortable to be in. So, I guess, that's one of the main reasons why the were many people in Palermo. Well, it was a good place for us, I can say.

The staff

And the staff was pretty nice, too, though they worked hard all day long and they were pretty tired, you know after all those things they carried with them and taking orders and stuff. They still were on a good mood and even dances on the music and laughed with others and everything. There was this one girl who took our orders for two days and then some other took our order on the third time and she was pretty nice, too, and then again this first girl was our waitress, so both of them were pretty likeable and nice to talk to. Well, they tried, you know, because of you are not nice to your clients then you might lose your job, of course, and no one wants that, you know, so that the staff did their best to be the best, I guess.

Well, the chefs did their best, too, because the food there was really delicious and it was like they wanted their dishes to be not just delicious, but good looking, too, because they looked pretty beautiful when they were brought to the table. And I remembered this TV series, which is Russian and it’s called “The Kitchen” and they showed it on Comedy channel in Georgia and I used to watch it and it was pretty hilarious series, I mean, I really enjoyed them. This was about French cuisine restaurant in Moscow and how cooks worked there and the clients and the staff and the owner and their lives altogether and it was pretty awesome series. Then they stopped showing them, though there were other series left that they didn’t show, I mean, the series continued on Russian channels, though they stopped showing them on this Georgian channel. And then they started it again from the beginning. There’s this thing, and especially in French restaurants, that they do everything the dishes to be beautiful, though they may be very small or something like that, but they are wonderful to look at. And they are so beautiful that you just feel like if you eat them you will destroy some piece of art. Well, if you ask me, they are pieces of art and some are masterpieces, too. I mean, some of the dishes are just so beautiful that they must be exhibited in some museum or something. I guess, you will agree, that it’s really hard to prepare something really quickly and, at the same time, have it decorated really amazingly, so that it’s like a piece of art.

Dishes in Palermo restaurant

Well, I can tell you about the restaurant and the food there, of course, I mean, we tasted some of their dishes and so that I know some things about their food and how it is, so let me tell you about that. First of all, when getting in, you find it nice and great to seat somewhere inside this restaurant, because the tables and chairs are pretty well decided and the decorations are wonderfully put around the wooden things and the environment is pretty nice. To be honest, I wouldn’t expect such place there in Ureki, because it’s not a large city or something, it’s just a town and you can enjoy your holidays there with your family in a nice, quiet environment, not like in big cities and stuff like that, you know. So everything is just quiet there and there are not clubs and things like that, if you want to know the truth. Of course, people who want to dance and drink and do stuff like that can enjoy in some places, but there are just one or two places like that, I guess, that resemble that kind of situations.

So, anyways, they have plenty of dishes in Palermo, starting from Mchadi ending with Chakapuli and stuff like that. They had salads, like tomato and cucumber salad, as well as chicken salad and Greek salad and others, they also had some eggplants with walnuts, (which my mother and brother and sister love so much and they couldn’t resist not ordering them in Palermo, too) and soups, like Kharcho in both styles, I mean, there’s this soup-Kharcho with rice and then there’s this Kharcho with ground walnuts, which is pretty delicious, if you ask me. I love both of them, if you want to know the truth. We ate this soup-Kharcho twice in Palermo and it was tasty and just like it was supposed to be, so that we really liked it. I’m telling you, they really know how to prepare some dishes there.

Some time ago, you wouldn’t like any of those dishes there, because they didn’t really try to prepare them well, I guess, or I don’t know what was the reason. Or maybe, we just didn’t like it, I can’t really say, however, it was all delicious this time and I really saw much improvement during these years, that I haven’t been there. And it’s been 2 years, I guess, or something like that, that I hadn’t been there in Ureki. Some things have really developed there, however, there’s still this problem about banks and ATM machines, because there’s only one ATM machine and it’s of Procredit Bank and we don’t use this bank’s services, and I guess, there are no banks, because I haven’t seen any. And they told us that there was this TBC Bank ATM somewhere at the end of the main street there, however, we walked and walked and didn’t encounter any of those ATM machines of TBC Bank. Well, they said that usually it didn’t work, so that if we found this ATM machine, it would probably be out of order or something like that. Well, good thing is that there are some supermarkets where you can pay by your credit card, I mean, there’s this one supermarket and two Nikora supermarkets where you can buy things with not only cash, but with your cards, too, so that you can have your card there and there’s no problem in buying some stuff.

Anyways, let’s get back to about the dishes in Palermo. Well, we haven’t tasted Acharuli Khachapuri there, however, other people were eating it and it looked pretty delicious, I can say. And, to be honest, we had some plans of eating Acharuli Khachapuri in Batumi Retro restaurant, where everyone knows, that they prepare very delicious Acharuli Khachapuri and it’s one of the main restaurants there, where people go to eat that Acharuli Khachapuri. The other one is the No. 1 Sakhachapure, I guess, I don’t really know much about that, but as they say, there are those two which are about that Acharuli Khachapuri and, well, Khachapuri, in general. You know, generally, when people go to the seaside, they usually eat Acharuli Khachapuri there. There are a few bakeries that are known to have some good Khachapuris, you know, and others are just preparing it with not great cheese and they do some things to make it seem like Khachapuri, you know. Well, you should know, where to buy good Khachapuris, otherwise, you’ll end up with bad Khachapuris, that you won’t like and you will want not to eat it and it will be just a waste of your money. And, at the same time, you will get on a bad mood, I guess, because, it’s not that great when you want something to eat so much and you buy that thing and you just taste it and it’s not what you expected, you know. Well, that’s just horrible, if you ask me.

So, Palermo restaurant also had these different kinds of pizza, however, we haven’t eaten pizza there either, because they usually don’t prepare great pizzas there, I mean, they just roll the dough and spread some ketchup there and put some sausages on it and some cheese and mayonnaise and that’s it and no one really knows why they do that, I guess. The other time, when we were in Kobuleti in some dining place, we ordered pizza, because my sister and brother wanted to eat some pizza and they had some choices of pizza and we choose the one that was their “own” and the water recommended it, too, however, when they brought it, it was just a waste of money and ingredients, if you ask me, because it was horrible. Well, not that horrible, but it was just something that even a very bad cook wouldn’t prepare. So that, if you want to eat pizza, you should go to the pizza restaurants, which I know that are in Tbilisi, however I don’t know about Batumi pizza restaurants, moreover other cities’ pizza restaurants, and, I guess, there are not pizza restaurants in Ureki and Kobuleti, because they are not big cities or something like that, you know. Anyways, we didn’t eat Acharuli Khachapuri there, however my parents ordered Megruli Khachapuri there in Palermo restaurant and it was really good, if you want to know the truth. It looked delicious and when I tasted a little piece of it, it was really tasty and it had a real taste of Khachapuri, if you ask me. And others liked it, too, so that it is not just my opinion that it was pretty delicious. And it was really large, so that we couldn’t really eat it all, I mean, we only ate half of it and the other half we just took home, because it was so delicious that we couldn’t leave it there just like that. Well, I’m really interested, what they do with all those dishes that are left. I guess, they throw them away?! This question really bugs me, you know, and I haven’t asked that anywhere and it just kills me anytime there’s food left on the table. You know, I just don’t like leaving some food on a plate or whatever and I always try not to leave my food and eat it till the end.

Anyways, we tasted some Lobio Kotanshi in Palermo restaurant. It’s a bean dish and it’s beans cooked in a clay pot and it’s really delicious if seasoned and spiced well. So, I really wanted to eat some beans one day and we ordered one portion of Lobio Kotanshi. They brought it soon and it was just great, I mean, it was spiced very well and seasoned well, too, and it was really delicious. Everyone liked it, of course. It’s great with Mchadi, if you want to know the truth and though I didn’t order any Mchadi, we had Chvishtari_ the one that resembles Mchadi, but has cheese in it, too. And I ate beans with Chvishtari and it was really good, if you want to know the truth.

They also had some salmon in their menu and it was two types of salmon dish, I mean, they had salmon with vegetable sauce and salmon with vinegar and fresh coriander. Well, I hadn’t tasted salmon with vegetable sauce so that I really wondered what it would be like, so that I ordered one portion of it and soon it was brought and it was really beautiful to look at. Well, to be honest, they said that the vegetable sauce or whatever was prepared with eggplants and cucumbers and other things, however, when it was brought it didn’t have eggplants. Actually, the one that was brought was really delicious, so it didn’t need any eggplants, if you ask me. Well, it had tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers fried on a pan and onions, too, and then it had some freshly chopped coriander and fennel. And it had some spices, too, and it was really good, if you want to know the truth. Well, there were three medium sized salmon fillets beneath that vegetable sauce, and they were pan-fried, too. Or maybe cooked in the oven. At least, it was all delicious and we really liked it, so that I will definitely prepare that kind of dish whenever I have a chance. The other dish was salmon with vinegar and fresh coriander, you know, and the next day we ordered that one. And it was really good, too, because it’s always good, if you ask me. I mean, we usually prepare that one at home, and maybe not with salmon, but we buy some other fish fillets and boil them and then put them in that vinegar and freshly chopped coriander sauce and it’s pretty delicious, if you want to know the truth. So, if you haven’t tasted that dish, you should definitely taste it!

They also had Kebabs and cutlets and, to be honest, they were kind of soft and I’m not used to eating them like that. I mean, they were delicious and stuff, however they were strangely soft. Maybe that was because they were grind really well and that’s why they were soft. And they had this delicious sauce, that they bring you with kebab and you can just eat that sauce without anything it’s that good. I guess, it’s prepared with tomato sauce and freshly chopped coriander and stuff like that, my father used to prepare it sometimes, however, now I really don’t remember how it was prepared. You know, I usually helped him in preparing some dishes, and, well, I usually helped almost everyone in preparing dishes and, I guess, that’s why I know cooking stuff and things like that. You know, I really love preparing some things for people. I just can’t resist it. and sometimes it’s like I have this urge of preparing something, even though I don’t really want to eat it. I just want it to be for some people and for them to eat it and enjoy eating it, not just eat it, you know what I’m saying?! Well, that’s kind of crazy, if you ask me, however, I can’t really do anything about it. even today, I was thinking about preparing pizza, because the other day my father said something about pizza, and then I thought, perhaps he wanted to eat some pizza, so that I was thinking about preparing it today, though I only had one ingredient for it. and then I thought that I wouldn’t prepare it, however, the thought about preparing pizza was so strong, that I went to the supermarket and bought some stuff for it and prepared the pizza and people ate it and stuff like that, you know. I’m that crazy, I guess. And it was pretty good-looking, if you want to know the truth. And the taste I really don’t know, because I haven’t eaten it. of course, there’s some pieces of it still left, but I don’t know whether or not I’m going to eat it, because I don’t really want to eat it, but some times I want to taste it, of course, so it’s my dilemma right now and while thinking about eating my pizza or not, I’m writing this blog at the same time. In addition, I have been writing this blog this whole time while preparing my pizza, you know, it needs some time, until the dough gets doubled in size, or the pizza gets ready and cooked and stuff like that, you know. It’s good to write things while doing some things, because, sometimes you don’t really know what to write and then you go, do something, and when you come back to your blog, it just hits you and you start typing and then you can’t really stop until some time later, when you can have this pause in your head and not know what to say, again. This process is kind of hilarious, if you ask me. However, it’s really addictive, I mean, if you asked me about blogging some time, maybe, one year ago, I would laugh and tell you that it was unimaginable me to write some blogs, because I hadn’t ever tried it, I guess, and when I saw this website and saw some blogs of other people, it just hit me, that I could publish my photos there and write about those things that I have seen and experienced, because you can’t really upload everything on facebook, you know, and I just wanted those photos to be somewhere with all those feelings and things like that, that I felt while taking them and I wanted to remember my travellings and special days and everything and have them somewhere, so that this blog was just the one that I liked and started writing there. I wrote every day about some things and, of course, about some recipes of some dishes that I use to prepare, or that I learned to prepare, so that everything went great and little by little I got kind of experienced in writing those blogs, I guess, and then it all got so addictive, that I just had to write something each day. It was really surprising for me, if you want to know the truth. And it’s kind of surprising now, too, I mean, I haven’t got used to me being kind of a “blogger” and things like that, you know.

Music in Palermo restaurant

Well, to be honest, they have pretty good music, if you want to know the truth. I mean, they have all those kinds of music, well, technically because they have internet and they can turn anything on if you want to. And they have this big LED TV screen and they are showing some things on it. they have some cartoons, too, on it, you know, for the children, I guess. They also showed some video clips on that LED screen, if you want to know the truth and the thing was, sometimes it had sound, sometimes it didn’t. I mean, they didn’t need to show that cartoon with the sound, of course, because the people there weren’t there to watch and listen to those cartoons and for children it didn’t really matter whether the cartoon would have sounds or not, they could watch it without sounds, too. Then there was kind of a DJ in a corner, where musicians were placed, too and this person would turn some music on and sometimes it was electric music, sometimes it was Rap and Rock and Reggae and everything, and if anyone asked, he would turn that music on, so it was pretty democratic, I can say.

And then, there was a live music in the evening till late hours, I mean, there were these two men, who would sing different songs, including Georgian, Russian, English and stuff like that. And, well, they were alright, I can say. This one guy really had a voice, if you want to know the truth, however, I guess, he didn’t really know English and when he sang English songs, he had this crazy Georgian accent that made me laugh, if you want to know the truth. It was when he was singing Scorpions’ “Wind of Change”. It’s a very popular song here in Georgia, I guess, and this one day there were these men, who got drunk and requested some music and they would go to those musicians and ask to play some different music and one of the requests was this song of “Wind of Change” and so that they started singing it live, and though this guy sang pretty well, his accent was really noticeable, if you want to know the truth. However, he sang well, I am not saying, that he sang bad or something like that. He was pretty good. Well, these drunk men were pretty annoying, if you want to know the truth, because they were kind of shouting and they were residing there in Ureki, as it seemed, and they knew the waitresses and they were feeling themselves like at home and their behavior was not that good, if you want to know the truth. They were saying tosts and things like that and they were all like “hey, waitress, bring us this and bring us that” and stuff like that and it was really annoying for everyone, I guess, however, no one told them anything, because then there might have been a fight and no one wanted that, so that everyone sat at their tables and ate their dishes and were patient to finish their meal and go outside, I guess. Those kinds of things should not be happening anywhere, however, they do happen and no one wants extra problems, so that people usually don’t say anything about that. And, well, it’s a public place _ a restaurant or a café _ and you can’t really forbid anyone doing something, you know, we are all free people as we say and we do what we want, however, one should not do things that annoy other people, I mean, one should have some limits, because where one’s freedom ends, the other’s begins, so that everyone and everything has its limits and we should consider that fact, you know. There’s this thing about democracy and freedom and stuff like that, that people should know their limits, otherwise it will be just a chaos and anarchy and that’s a disaster and everyone knows that.

Anyways, Palermo restaurant in Ureki is a place that definitely is worth visiting and if you want to dine in a place where there are pretty delicious dishes and a good environment, you can go there and you don’t even need any effort in finding it, as it’s almost on the road and you can easily see it after entering Ureki main place, where there are all those supermarkets and many people and a park and stuff like that. And the prices in Palermo are pretty reasonable, I mean, the prices are just usual, just like in other restaurants on the seaside while there’s this season of swimming and stuff like that, you know. There may be a small difference between big cities’ restaurants and small towns’ restaurants, of course, however, this difference is not that noticeable and huge, so that everything is just normal and people can afford such meals during the day, of course. Well, some people choose to have their own kitchen in a hotel or someplace they are renting a room, especially those ones with little children and stuff, however, many people go to the seaside so that they can stay at a hotel and dine there or someplace else and so that they don’t have to cook or prepare dishes for themselves, you know. They just want to relax and rest and not bother about things that they meet in everyday life throughout the year and they just want to run from that life for a couple of days or so. So, everything for them can be simple during those days. And, well, they want to get suntanned, especially women, because suntanned skin is just really popular in Georgia nowadays and women and girls just want to have a suntan during the whole year and they go to solariums and stuff like that. And why go to solarium, when they can get suntanned on the beach somewhere on the seaside?! So that they go to the seaside to get suntanned and, at the same time, relax and rest and hang out with friendsor get to know other people and dance in clubs and have a good time and enjoy the hot summer there.
