If you want to buy salmon in Georgia

 The introduction

Do you love fish? And do you love salmon? So I have heard, that salmon is a great fish for everything and it’s very good for us to eat it from time to time at least. So that, I will tell you some things about it and where to buy salmon in Georgia, because it’s not usually sold in the usual markets and shops, where they have some other fish, however, this particular salmon is not everywhere and you can not buy it in these markets , which are kind of small and not like the large supermarkets.

To be honest, I didn’t really know about buying the frozen salmon and then preparing it until just recently, because no one in our family used to buy salmon and prepare it. We used to have some hake fish or scumbria and prepare them in the frying pan with some flour and it was fried in oil and it was pretty delicious, I must say, however, it had lots of oil because of that. They also prepared some other fish types with boiling water and then they would put the pieces into some vinegar and add some fresh chopped coriander, which gave a great taste to the dish and the vinegar was just very delicious with the fish, if you ask me. And back then, I didn’t like the taste of fish and that vinegar taste just neutralized the fish’s taste and it was pretty good in that sauce, you know. you know, most of the children and even adults don’t like the smell and taste of fish, however, they still like eating them in some sauces and things like that, because they know, that eating fish is good for them, and, besides, fish doesn’t have its taste in its maximum when eaten with some sauces or vegetables or some things it’s pretty good eating fish that way. I guess, that’s why many people like it in some vinegar and fresh coriander here, because the vinegar gives the fish its own taste and the fish doesn’t taste that bad fish taste, that it usually has.

So, to tell you the truth, people in Georgia didn't really buy salmon until just recently, when it suddenly became very popular. Well, to be honest, some years ago there were not too many places, where you could buy some good salmon or even just a regular one, so that the people just bought those types of fish, which they could see in the supermarkets. And, to tell you the truth, there were not even the supermarkets some years ago, and there were only those bazaars or small markets with some goods in them. And the most popular fish then was herring or something like that. However, there opened up some supermarkets and some great places, where you can buy some good fish and there are lots of different types of fish all around and it's very efficient, that they have them in the supermarkets frozen or alive and you can buy whichever you want. Well, I always buy frozen salmon steaks, because they are in the supermarkets and I can even choose the pieces myself and I can take as much as I want to. And, besides, I guess, salmon is not in our waters, so that it's imported from other countries, unlike other types of fish, which Georgians catch in our rivers.

The supermarkets

So, first of all, who doesn't love salmon if they love fish?! So that, perhaps you should know, where exactly you can buy some salmon.

The very first place, where I go to buy some frozen salmon is this large supermarket called Carrefour, because it's really large and they have almost everything there, so that I usually go there to buy those stuff like salmon. You can either buy them in single pieces and weigh them after that or you can  just buy them in those packages, where there are 1 kilogramme salmon steaks.

Well, these Carrefour supermarkets are in many places, one of them are in East Point, which is a large shopping and entertainment center and it's a pretty popular place in the whole city. It's not that easy to get to, I mean, it's in the eastern end of the city, so that not many people like going there, who just live in the city center or somewhere like that. However, it's really comfotrtable to shop there, because there are all the other things, too, and the parking lot is huge, though there are always many cars around and sometimes it's kind of hard to find a place near the supermarket to be empty.Its prety comfortable going there on foot, too, because there are microbuses going to the East Point directly and you can take any of them from the varketili metro station, where there is this microbus no.224 just across the metro station and it costs just 50 tetrisand it goes directly to the East Point. You can also go there by microbus no.176, which I personally take usually, because it goes through the street where exactly i live in and it's really easy for me to catch that microbus and get to East Point shopping center. And it costs 80 Tetris, so that, it's not as cheap as no.224 microbus, however, it goes just nearby my apartment, so it's worth paying those 80 Tetris.  And if you are looking for some buses, there are no buses going to East Point directly, so that, you should definitely take the microbus, or just a taxi or a car.

The other Carrefour supermarket is located on the western end of the city, which is in Tbilisi Mall and it was the very first one to open in Tbilisi. That Carrefour supermarket is probably the largest one in the whole city and many people love going there, because it was the first one, where they used to go and though it's not in the city center, where it's easier to get to any supermarket or any other place, people still love going to Tbilisi mall and visit that Carrefour supermarket, too.

The other Carrefour supermarket is located in the city center and , well, there are some of them located in the city center. One of them is in Karvasla shopping center on Tsotne Dadiani street, nearby the central railway station, which is on the Station Square. It's a great Carrefour supermarket there, however, I don't really love going there, because it's not that easy to get there by metro, because then you have to walk about 15 minutes or so, and well, it's not that comfortable for me to get there.

Another Carrefour supermarket is located in Saburtalo Mall,which is just nearby that Pekini avenue and I pretty much love going there, because it'seasy to get there somehow, because there are lots of transportation going there.

Well, there are lots of Carrefour supermarkets throughout the city and I have written about them in my another article about Carrefour, so that we can move on to another great supermarket ,where I usually buy some salmon, if I don't like them in Carrefour supermarket and sometimes, it's kind of cheaper in this supermarket to buy some salmon steaks, than it is in that Carrefour supermarket. This supermarket is called Fresco and it's one of my most visited ones, because it's just 10 minutes walk from my apartment and I usually shop there, because it's on my way home and when I go home from the lectures or somewhere else, I just walk into that supermarket and shop there and then go home. That Fresco supermarket is just nearby Varketili metro station and it's pretty easy to get there and I usually shop there, so that I know almost everything about it. There's another Fresco supermarket nearby the Ghrmaghele metro station and it's a pretty good one, too, and I really like shoppping there, too.

There are also places , where you can buy not only frozen salmon steaks, but you can buy boiled or roasted salmon stteaks, too, and they are really delicious. For example, the very reccommended supermarket in that matter is Goodwill supermarket and especially the one in the City Mall, which is on Kavtaradze street in the middle of the metro stations Delisi and Vazha-pshavela and that's where I first bought that boiled salmon steaks and I just loved it. They prepare the salmon steaks very well and it's just a great idea to buy them there when you just want to have a snack or something between your breaks or whatever. Well, of course, salmon costs expensive and it's even more expensive, when you buy those salmon steaks already prepared, hwooever, they are worth it and you will just love them and you will be willing to pay for those prepared salmon steaks, let them be boiled or roasted. And, of course, you can buy the frozen salmon steaks there in Gooodwill supermarket, too, however, they may be more expensive than the ones bought in the Fresco supermarket or even Carrefour supermarket, because you can have the 5% discount card for the Fresco supermarket and buy things there with that discount comparing to other supermarkets.

You can also  buy the prepared salmon in some of those family diners, which are becoming more and more popular in the whole city of Tbilisi, however, there are not those salmon steaks as delicious, as they are in Goodwill supermarket. For example, you can go to the family diner, which is just nearby the 300 Aragveli metro station and they have lots of things there, including salmon steaks, which are kind of roased and they are pretty good and you can even eat them there, however, I still prefer the Goodwill ones.
