Bread in Georgia

In this article I want to tell you about bread in Georgia and how Georgians love it.
Well, I haven’t seen any other people love bread so much as Georgians love bread. It’s a very necessary thing to have it at home and if you don’t have it there, then it’s equal to not having any food at home, while you might have plenty of food in your fridge or whatever. The very first thing, that a person might ask someone talking on the phone at home, is whether they have bread at home or not and how many loaves of bread they should take at home. It’s really that important for Georgians to have some bread at home, and they eat lots of bread with any meal, except for khinkali, I guess. they can even eat bread with spaghetti or salads or whatsoever. And while the bread prepared by some companies can be pretty good, too, they still prefer those shoti and lavashi, which are prepared in the bakeries, which you can find almost everywhere in Georgia, and they usually have new bread all the time, because people usually buy those bread very often and there are many people buying them, too, so that everything goes just fine and everyone’s happy, I guess. a man can eat the whole loaf of shoti on one meal, and those shotis are not that small, if you want to know the truth. They are very delicious, though, and when they are hot, they are very difficult to resist and everyone just takes a piece of it and eats it. And it’s very delicious thing to eat that hot shoti piece with some butter and cheese, because that way they melt in that piece of shoti and are very delicious and it’s like khachapuri, if you want to know the truth. However, you should know, that eating shoti hot is not a good idea for your stomach and you should not eat things made with flour hot, because it’s really difficult to digest that kind of stuff for the stomach and it’s struggling too much, if you want to know the truth. Though it’s really that hard to resist not having some piece of that hot shoti. And it has this great smell, which makes you want to eat it even more! Well, I will have another article about shoti itself, however, now I want to tell you about these other bread types, which you can find in the supermarkets and almost everywhere and the companies, which produce some good bread.
Amaranti bread
Well, to be honest, I don’t really like that regular type of bread and I don’t really like anything regular, I guess. I like those breads, which have some other things in them and are not made just from flour. One of that types of bread is called Amaranti and they have two types of that kind of bread and one of them is white and the other is black. I usually like the black one, because other than those things added to it, it has this distinguished black bread taste, which makes me want to eat it even more, and it’s so delicious for me, that I can eat the whole bread without anything else. It has some spices and useful things, such as coriander and some seeds and things like that and it’s good for digestion and metabolism, so that I really recommend buying this bread, and, well, if you don’t like eating black bread, then you can have it white and that white one has the exact same things in it, that the black one has, so that the difference is just in the colour and the flour, I guess.
Lithuanian bakery
Another company, which has many types of bread in Georgia is this Lithuanian bread bakery, and it has black bread and there are all those different types of bread. I like the one with some seeds in it and it even has some sunflower seeds in it, and it’s not that large or something like that, it’s like a half loaf of bread and if you are alone at home or no one else likes eating that kind of bread, then you should buy it, because it’s not that large portion, and you won’t have to throw it away if it gets bitter, because, usually it won’t stay uneaten for too long.
They also have some other black breads, however, I don’t usually buy those stuff, because if I buy bread in the supermarket for me, I usually buy that Amaranti black bread because of its taste and price and the useful things, that it contains. However, the Lithuanian breads are good if you want to have some beer with your friends, and, well, for me, the black bread really goes well with some beer and sausage, maybe , or something else, so that , keep that in mind and look for some Lithuanian bread for that occasion when you are in the supermarket!
Ipkli bread
There’s this company , that has become very popular in Georgia and it has some different types of bread, too, and they mainly produce white regular bread, which are sold pretty fast and is very popular among people. And it costs just 70 or 80 tetris, depending on where you are buying that bread. The company itself is just very close to my apartment and when we go there to buy some bread, they usually have them warm or something like that and it’s always new, so that it’s a pleasure going there and buying that bread and that newly baked bread has such a delicious smell, that you just can not resist not eating it right away.
They also have some already sliced bread in packages and though they are not as delicious as the newly baked bread, they are still good and they are especially good, when you need to have some bread sliced, because then you can buy that sliced bread and not bother slicing anything else. Its’ really simple that way and life has been made so simple, that you can not worry about many things, you know.
They also have some black bread, though it’s not as black as those of Lithuanian bakery and some people say about that, that they colour the bread and that’s why they are so black. Well, I don’t know about that, however, we don’t usually buy Ipkli black bread, so that I can’t say anything about it.
This company also has some cute small breads, which can be used for hamburgers or things like that and once I got to know about them, I bought two of them and they were even black ones and I liked them very much and they cost just 25 tetris, so that they were pretty good for their price and they were not very small either.
Greek bread
There’s been this Greek bread become kind of popular for some time now and the supermarkets have the Greek bread sold and people buy them and they like them, so that they even started baking Greek bread along with lavashi and shoti in the bakeries. I didn’t really know, that this type of bread was called the Greek bread and once, when they asked me to buy some bread and they especially mentioned, that I should buy the Greek bread, I didn’t know which one it was, however, fortunately someone came into the supermarket with me and shoed me which ones were the Greek bread. It is a pretty soft one and doesn’t cost much and is a normal sized bread, which has kind of different taste and is pretty popular these days amongst the people here. There’s a bakery nearby my apartment and they have especially written on their sign, that they have Greek bread there and it costs somewhere around 60 to 70 tetris, so the price is pretty reasonable, and, besides , it’s really good, when they have it newly baked, of course, and when I go home, I usually have to walk near that bakery and I can easily buy that bread, which my family members like very much, I can say.
Other types of bread sold in the supermarkets
Well, there are many other types of breads in the supermarkets, which you can buy. They are all delicious, I can say, and it’s just up to the individual, which one they like. For example, there is this “Twin” bread, which is like lavashi or greek bread and it’s very soft and easily eatable and my father usually likes to buy it.
There’s another bread like French baguette and it’s really delicious, too, and it’s about 1 lari and it’s really good and I like eating it, too. It’s very good with some certain dishes and when I have those dishes at home, I like to buy that baguette for myself and eat it.
There are also these sandwich bread packages, which have plenty of slices of square bread and they are good if you want to spread something on them or make sandwiches and things like that. And my sister loves them and usually buys them, however, I can’t say, that they have some delicious taste and they don’t really taste of anything at all, if you ask me, so that I don’t really like them, if you want to know the truth and I usually have them used in spreading some Nutella over them or some melted cheese or things like that. However, you can buy some other delicious sliced bread and use them that way, too.
There are another bread types, which can be used for preparing hotdogs and they are with sesame seeds and there are also such breads, but they are round and can be used to prepare hamburgers. And there are some different types of bread for hamburgers and the package contains 6 hamburger breads and they are very delicious and they are just like they have in McDonald’s and they are kind of sweet and when you eat them, you can not really stop eating them, if you want to know the truth. And perhaps, that’s what happens when you are at McDonald’s eating those hamburgers.
Anyways, there are other bread types, too, and you can find them in the Carrefour supermarket, where there are those cute small breads in packages and there are six of them together, if I remember it correctly. They are those ones, which you can buy frozen in Germany and then cook them whenever you want, though these ones are not frozen , I think, and they are just prepared at once. They are not white, I guess, they are kind of darker in colour and they taste really great and they are so good, that you won’t want to stop eating them. And, besides, the portion is just for a person and one won’t have to cut it into some pieces or whatever and people at the table can have them as a whole one, because it’s enough for a person, you know. we had them bought on the New Year’s Eve and we had them at the table and everyone just liked them and it was very easy to put them on the table, because they didn’t need any cutting or whatever, and, besides, they were very delicious and soon they were all finished, I must say.

I used to eat lots of bread with dishes and there were hardly other dishes, which I just ate without bread and those ones were just like desserts or appetizers for me, because I felt like if I didn’t eat bread with the dishes, then those dishes were not included in the meal and they were just for fun.
