Erasmus Experience in Geneva, Switzerland by Putri
Why did you choose to go to Geneva, Switzerland?
Because Geneva has first-class facilities for research in Dentistry, you will meet excellent collaborators and supervisors, the tuition fee in public university is almost free (it is very cheap)
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
4 years, well approximately is 2000 chf
What is the student lifestyle like in Geneva?
Students are very multicultural, they have many outside activities, gathering with many people to learn French.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Geneva to other students?
Well, it is difficult to say since this is one of the most expensive city in the world, depends on your budget, but to study here is really nice if you can find a good scholarship/budget
What is the food like?
I don't really know about the food because mostly i will cook by myself
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Geneva?
Yes, accomodation is the most problematic, it is high demanding and the price is very expensive, for example just normal studio will cost you 1600 chf unless you can find accomodation in university or shared apartement.
How much does it cost to live in Geneva?
Depends on person, the problem is the housing and even food/groceries are expensive, but if you never eat outside, you don't go to the pub, you don't really travel, you can survive with 2000 chf/month or even less
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
No, French is difficult for me, depends on person of course. Yes they are available, some even free for exchange student or the one with scholarship, but mostly thry are expensive especially outside of University
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Geneva from your city?
I'm from Asia so i take flights of course
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Geneva?
I don't like to go on a night out so i don't know. If it is not a winter or cold weather you can just hang out close to the Lake maybe
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Geneva?
I don't know much about this
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
I don't know much about this
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Geneva in the future?
1. You must estimate your budget to decide study here
2. Find accomodation long time before you start your study (at university housing is always full and queueing) so you must prepare before
3. Better to take class at your home country before coming, people don't really like when you speak Engish here and to take course is quite expensive, at least with A2 you can survive here for basic conversation (supermaket, public places)
