Erasmus Experience in Geneva, Switzerland by Courtney
Why did you choose to go to Geneva, Switzerland?
I was really interested in my particular program at UNIGE (FTI), but I was also interested in the unique situation in Geneva where so many languages are spoken all in the same place.
What is the student lifestyle like in Geneva?
Student lifestyle is really laid back. Your classes don't take up much of your time during the week, but you do have to do a lot of independent study. That leaves a lot of time to explore the city and participate in events.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Geneva to other students?
Definitely! It's an exciting city! Something is always going on and it's a beautiful mix of old and new buildings.
What is the food like?
The food is almost always delicious, but quite expensive. If you're short on cash, there's always McDonald's or the university vending machines.
How much does it cost to live in Geneva?
Living in Geneva is not cheap. It can take a lot of research to find accommodation if you're on a budget.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The University offers free French courses at every level for those who aren't as experienced with the French language, or who just want to improve their French.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Geneva?
There is a definite night life in Geneva. You can always find something to do once the sun goes down.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Geneva?
Taco Rico is really yummy. They have a special student price where you get a free drink with your order. The burritos fill you up for the rest of the day!
