What is it like to live in Geneva? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It requires you to be quite independent and seek out a network of people. Use online forums like http://www.glocals.com, http://www.darksite.ch and take an interest in activities. Get involved in activities on the lake and mountains (if you sail people are often looking for crew to join them; renting a paddleboard at Vengeron in the summer is 10 francs/hour; swimming is free; the Bains des Paquis is cheap; take a bus to the Saleve; join people driving up to the mountains to hike).

Tough. Expensive. But great weather and interesting international people to meet. If you are outgoing and like meeting new people you'll do surprisingly well. If you are easily discouraged it may not be for you.

Expensive, difficult to manage on less than 1200 francs spending money a month (rent, groceries etc).

Yes. Use the online forums, ask people working at the UN, spread your facebook network and ask them for help. People will help you if they know you need it.
