My Local Beach

Published by flag-ie Maoilíosa Lydon — 7 years ago

My local beach is a coral beach which is one of few in Ireland. It is a small beach compared to others but the sights are breathtaking.

It is very popular among tourists especially in the Summer time. You can see the Aran Islands in the distance also. It is based in Carraroe, a Gaeltacht area of Connamara. At Christmas, it is a tradition to go for a dip in the water on Christmas Day.

The coral is made up of coralline algae and is hard to walk on as it is sharp so try walking on it at your own risk. It has a great view at sunset and makes for some beautiful pictures. It also has a pier close by which looks out onto na Beanna Beola or Twelve Pins.
