If you are into live music then The Quays is defintely the pub where you will be spending the majority of your time in Galway. Live music is this pub's speciality and there is no shortage of it throughout the entire week. It is located on Quay Street which is just of the main city centre street; "Shop Street" so it is really central, but then again pretty much everthing is Galway is! The actual pub istself is quite large and actually takes up two stories so there is plenty of space for everyone. There is a smaller bar towards the entrance of the pub which is a bit quieter and the main area is towards the back of the pub building. The pub also serves food but I have never eaten there so can't speak for it, but I'd imagine it is good, classic Irish cooking!
As I said, The Quays is all about the live music and this is proven by the fact that there is live music 7 nights a week! Yes, that is not a typo, there really are live bands playing from Monday to Sunday every single week! It's not the same type of music each night either. You can have a traditional Irish Céile band playing on Monday followed by a pure Rock band on Tuesday so there is something for everyone regardless of your musical tastes. The layout of the back bar is actually quite unique as well. As I said the pub takes up two stories and this is what makes it so unique. The bands usually play on an open balcony overlooking the ground floor so if you are on the dance floor you will have the band towering over you above as you dance. This is a really cool feature and unlike anything I have ever seen before in any pub. So if you like your live music then The Quays should be your first pitstop in Galway!
