Why did you choose to go to Funchal, Portugal?
The weather it’s perfect, there are always 18-24 degrees. The island is full of little houses with are perfectly fitting in the green landscape.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
4 months. At the end of the internship an amount of 500 euros.
What is the student lifestyle like in Funchal?
The life is chill, but on Christmas (December) you have a lot of markets with typical food and drinks and the city is full of lights.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Madeira to other students?
For sure will recommend this beautiful city!
What is the food like?
They have everything, from typical food to the European one.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Funchal?
Yes.
How much does it cost to live in Funchal?
If you don’t count the payment of the rent, I think an amount of 200-250 € for month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The language is easy, but a little bit different from the Portuguese they speak in Lisbon or Oporto.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Funchal from your city?
Italy-Lisbon, Lisbon-Funchal.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Funchal?
Casino of Madeira or by the oceans there are a lot of bars.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Funchal?
The center is full of them.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Camara do lobos, Calheta, Porto moniz.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Funchal in the future?
Take always an umbrella!
