Discovering Frankfurt part 3
I return to Frankfurt over 4 months at the end of my Erasmus mobility.
Less known places of Frankfurt
This time I am staying with the family of a friend who have a garden in a part of Frankfurt that is not main and very crowded. When we go to the garden I have the impression that I am not in Frankfurt anymore because this area is very quiet and green. Nothing is heard, not even a car.
The gardens of Frankfurt
This garden I'm talking about is in a kind of garden complex where people have a small cabin that accompanies the green space. People who have gardens come from different parts of the world. I hear a lot of stories about the neighbours and how the gardens evolved. Here people grow flowers or trees, and in the summer they grow vegetables. A small crop generally contains tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, salad, onions or aromatic herbs.
Also, the place is used as a place for relaxation and recreation, is like a hidden spot where you can escape when the city's agitation gets you tired and bored. Around the garden complex I find many blackberries and because it has been a long time since I have not eaten such goodies I now eat until I can no longer take it in my stomach and my tongue is colored in violet.
Going around with the bike
Because we are quite far from the main areas we take the bikes and start exploring without having any exact destination to reach. We ride our bikes along a small river where we see nutria, through a large park where rabbits are free and can appear at any time from some bushes where they are hiding when people are getting to close to them.
I ride to a hippodrome and a stable where I see very well cared, healthy horses and to a lake full of birds such as ducks, geeses and swans. It is a perfect summer afternoon and cycling cools us down due to the wind produced by the bicycle pedaling.
It's so enjoyable and so much more productive to explore new places with your bike! Plus by doing so you are eco-friendly too. I really do not know the names of the places I go with the bike, but I have images and so many sensations stucked in my head.
It is Frankfurt am Main a city worth visiting?
From my point a view Frankfurt is definitly a city worth seeing. Some friends of mine who are also Erasmus students and have been here do not agree with my statement, but still I recommend traveling in this part of Germany. Frankfurt is not like any other big touristy city, but is more like an upcoming city, a continous growing and changing metropolis where people can find many things to experience.
On one hand, the city offers a high-tech, modern landscape with skyscrapers and on the other hand, the old tradition and buildings are respected by rebuilding, preserving and maintaining what once laid the foundations of the city and its development. I enjoy going around it either by foot, bike or metro in my aim of seeing diverse parts of Frankfurt.
