Erasmus Experience in Foggia, Italy by Maria
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
For me, it was only for six months and, regarding money, I got around €300 a month, but for the coming year, you need to bear in mind that there have been Erasmus grant cuts.
Would you recommend the city and the university of Foggia to other students?
It's a cheap place to live, which lets you travel to other cities in Italy.
What is the food like there?
10/10 amazing.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Foggia?
No, we had found a flat by the second day of being there.
How much does it cost to live in Foggia?
Rent there costs between €180 to 200 a month and food isn't very expensive (apart from dairy products, they're more expensive).
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
The language is not as easy as you might think, but you'll soon be able to understand and you can get by with some basic words and phrases. The university offers a course for Erasmus students, but I honestly don't think it's worth bothering with.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Foggia from your home city?
By plane to Bari, but the airport closes for the winter, so the only option left is to go to Rome and then buying cheap tickets in advance for the train or the bus for €26.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Foggia?
If you're looking for partying, Foggia is actually pretty dead, the good thing about it being a small city is that you're going to get to know almost all of the Erasmus students there and there's always some kind of alternative plan available to save the night.
And the eat in Foggia? What are some of your favourite places to go?
One of the best pizzerias in Foggia is called la Fasina, the food is great and very affordable.
Do you have any advice for students coming to Foggia in the future?
As I said, if you're looking for partying, there's nothing amazing for that here, but if Foggia is your only option for Erasmus, I encourage you to come. It's cheap and you'll have money left over for travelling to other places in Italy, there are a lot of little towns to see nearby and the train connections are good. The south of Italy is beautiful. And regarding the party scene, don't be disheartened, there are always flat parties full of people.
