Erasmus Experience in Foggia, Italy by Beatriz
Why did you choose to go to Foggia, Italy?
It was my only option.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I'm here for the whole year, they give you €300 a month for 5 months, plus what you get from your local government.
What is the student lifestyle like in Foggia?
There are a lot of Spanish people here and when I say a lot, I mean a lot! There are people from other places, but very few and every different nationality sticks together in their own group (with a few exceptions).
Would you recommend the city and the University of Foggia to other students?
It's not too bad (they're saying that they're going to open the biggest shopping centre in all of Puglia and open the airport again).
The latter would be a great thing, since every time we want to travel, we have to go to Rome, Bari or Naples first (it's really badly connected).
What is the food like there?
It's Italy... need I say more? The food is great, although you'll see that the prices are higher in the supermarkets than they are in Spain (you'll miss the Mercadona jingle).
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Foggia?
The ESN here give you quite a lot of help, but you have to be careful with which neighbourhood you live in.
The earlier you can get here, the better. The flats in the city centre go quickly.
How much does it cost to live in Foggia?
It costs about €200 a month for a room, not including bills.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
The university offers a course, but there are too many of use here and it was very short.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Foggia from your city?
I'm from Cáceres, I go by car or Blablacar to Madrid and fly to Rome from there).
You have to look at the flights in advance.
And there are trains from Rome for just over €9 but only if you book in advance on Trenitalia or with Flixbus, they have WiFi and you can charge your phone, which you'll need as it's a long journey.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Foggia?
There aren't very many, but the ESN organises parties (don't worry), but don't come here expecting to find big clubs or parties, you'll manage to have them with the people you hang out with there.
And to eat in Foggia? Where are some of your favourite places to go?
Fascina
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
You can see it all in 3 hours.
Do you have any advice for students coming to Foggia in the future?
Be patient, everything goes slowly in Italy.
