Experience in Exeter, United Kingdom by Anna
What is it like to live in Exeter? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Exeter is a tiny but lively student city. It's located in the South of the UK.
During the last 3 years, I've been living there as a student and I can assure you that Exeter will provide you with the best student campus you could ever ask for! Apart from the fact that Exeter is extremely small, it is an absolutely adorable place for studying (particularly for the undergraduates, since I'm deeply convinced that Master degrees should be studied in those cities, where you would like to start your career).
Exeter is full of beautiful landscapes, green parks, student areas, cafes, restaurants and other attractions. The location of Exeter is extremely convenient since just in 30-60 minutes by train you can reach the most beautiful cities which are located near the seaside! This travel experience will completely change your mind regrading the South of UK!
The weather in Exeter is much warmer and more pleasant than in other parts of the UK. Exeter is famous for its sunny weather and green nature. Moreover, The University of Exeter is very well known for the most beautiful student campus in the UK! And that's true!
What is the student lifestyle like in Exeter?
As I mentioned before, Exeter is all about student life. If you are going to study there - don't worry, it is the best place for studying you will ever find! The new libraries, the newest university buildings, stunning Business School and the gorgeous Forum (the heart of the University of Exeter, where you can find whatever you like - library, shops, cafes, lounge zones, Lecture halls, food halls and even the beauty salons).
The atmosphere of the University is very friendly! If you have any questions, the student campus is always ready to help! I enjoy my university life here and it is safe to say that I study in one of the best universities in the world!
How much does it cost to live in Exeter?
The prices in Exeter as in the rest of the UK are quite high. I can say extremely high, especially if you are coming from Eastern Europe. In general, the cost of living in Exeter is smaller than in London, and that's good news.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Exeter? Is there any advice you can give?
I can assure you that finding student accommodation in Exeter, as in the UK in general, is not a problem! If you are interested in comfortable studios or comfortable personal rooms with shared kitchen with affordable prices - I recommend to pay attention to student accommodations such as Iron Bridge Studios, Printworks and Vita.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
I'm a sophisticated food lover. Personally, I'm not a fan of the British cuisine but I can cook personally very well so it's not a problem for me.
There are a lot of delicious Italian and French cafes and restaurants around the city! "Côte Brasserie" and "Carluccio's" are my favorites!
What places would you recommend visiting in Exeter?
I definitely recommend visiting the Quay. It's a stunning place where the beauty of nature will absolutely clear your mind and will help you relax! It's a beautiful place to chill, to have a cup of coffee or a tasty lunch with beautiful views.
Is it good to eat out in Exeter? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
My favorite places are: Carluccio's, Côte Brasserie and Jamie's Italian.
Is the nightlife good in Exeter? Where is good to go?
Nightlife? Exeter is a student city! Of course there's plenty of places to party at night! If you don't know where to go - go out to the High Street on Friday night and you will see the masses of student going in the directions of party places! I think that the club "Arena" is still the most popular one.
What advice would you give future students heading to Exeter?
Relax and enjoy your student life!
