What is it like to live in Duisburg? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

There are a lot of companies which offer jobs in their offices here. So, you don't need to work in a bar or a restaurant. Always apply for (as workstudent) jobs. I worked in a company called 'Man'.

What is the student lifestyle like in Duisburg?

Student life is very good. Every one is always partying.

How much does it cost to live in Duisburg?

For example, a flat with two rooms, one bathroom, one kitchen and around 50 - 60 meter-square will cost around 450 - 600 euros (but a bit far from city center). Near to city center all of the things mentioned above will cost around 650 - 900 euros. If you get a room in a student dormitory, you have to pay around190 - 250 euros for a room. And in the same flat, there are minimum six rooms, one big kitchen and one bathroom for every three rooms! Duisburg is cheap.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Duisburg? Is there any advice you can give?

No, not at all. You can find it easily. An advice... hmmmm... actually not. I will post some pages. Check them out: WG-Gesucht, Immobilien Scout 24, Studentenwerk Essen-Duisburg.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Oh, there are many things to eat. Don't worry at all. I like Nordsee (all kinds of fish). Walking down the main train station you will find a lot of food courts. If you are Asian, there is a Kashmiri Shop at 30 seconds on walk from Essen Main Station, where you can buy food from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Africa, etc.

Is it good to eat out in Duisburg? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

I love Nordsee! And yes, it is perfectly fine! Nothing is halal except fish or turkish döner, so please, watch out. Even some döners are also not Halal.

Is the nightlife good in Duisburg? Where is good to go?

Of course, it is a lively city. There are a lot of clubs, discos and bars down the main train station street. So, don't worry, just go, you will find a lot of things. And there are also a lot of shopping malls.

What advice would you give future students heading to Duisburg?

Never worry about the stuffs. Every thing is fairly perfect here. Just install DB application on your mobile. Will help you to travel. For students, transportation is free if you get the card from the university.
