Why did you choose to go to Elazığ, Turkey?

I chose Elazig because Firat University, ranked 5th in Turkey is located there. The university has a reach balance of experienced and smart academic staff that compete favourably with their counterparts in any part of the world.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship is for 2-years (2 academic sessions)

What is the student lifestyle like in Elazığ?

Though school hasn't started yet due to the earthquake that affected resumption, the environment appears really good for academic work.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Elazığ to other students?

I will gladly recommend Elazig and Firat University to other students.

What is the food like?

Food is relatively cheap compared to what obtains in other European cities. However, i personally don't vibe with the variety of food on offer in restaurants as there are way different from what I'm used to in Nigeria.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Elazığ?

I didn't cost me as scholarship sponsors already had a consulting firm arrange accomodation for me and I only had to pay on arrival.

How much does it cost to live in Elazığ?

Relatively you'll need a minimum of 5,000TL on a monthly basis, inclusive of accommodation and living expenses.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The isn't so easy to grasp especially for English speakers, however there is a standardised language course at the university which you'll have to pay for.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Elazığ from your city?

Flight to Istanbul then to Elazig, though there are train services from Istanbul to Elazig, but it takes about 18hrs. So flying in by palne is best.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Elazığ?

I think "Big Boss" and "Hayar Restuarant" are cool places.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Elazığ?

Big Boss, Hayar Restuarant, Max Chicken.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

I'm yet to visit any cultural sites but I hear there are many of such.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Elazığ in the future?

Generally, anyone coming here should brace for the bad weather during winter(temp hovers between 3*C and -9*C.
