Edinburgh: Small but Immense
Good afternoon! Welcome, welcome!
Today I'm telling you about another experience of mine! The truth is that this has been spectacular - I need to return and do it all over again!
On one very calm day we were planning a trip, and while we were looking and searching, we discovered that lots of people were recommending to go to Edinburgh. It is described as a small city but with lots of things to explore.
Maybe it was this that inspired us to travel to Edinburgh, we could visit almost all of it on foot and it was also interesting because it has many little corners to discover.
We started our journey, one of the ones that are made without planning, but that turn out the best, and I can confirm this to be true - our trip to Edinburgh was a spectacular experience.
We 'stamped our feet' everywhere: the streets were narrow and with loads of cobblestones, buildings and gardens that were impressively beautiful, but what caught our eye the most were the ghost stories they told us during the various tours we did.
As I always say, I can't recount my entire trip in detail, more than I would like to do, so I just put what is really worth in my personal opinion, exploring in Edinburgh (do not be influenced, and get to know everything).
No matter what time of year you choose to visit this city, because I did it in summer, and it rained half of the time, so that's the reason why some photos are with gray skies and others with clear skies - the weather is unpredictable.
Here I leave you with a mountain of ideas about what you can discover in Edinburgh:
1. Climb Calton Hill to enjoy the marvellous sunset over the city. You will freak out! Furthermore, don't forget to bring your camera because, although the image is saved on your retinas, it is worth saving it forever in a photo as well.
2. You can even dare yourself to go a little higher and enjoy better views, climb the Nelson monument on the same hill.
3. Go to the Castle of Edinburgh and find out about the history of the city while you explore the fortress.
Inside, you can get to know the One o'clock cannon, St Margaret's Chapel, Scone Stone, Honours of Scotland... And many more interesting places can be found in this castle and it is worth getting to know it.
Without a doubt, it's wonderful!
4. Wander around and get to know all the narrow streets of the Royal Mile. You'll be amazed! They are precious and seem like they have come straight out of a fairytale! Spectacular!
The most well-known and impressive is the White Horse Close. Enjoy it!
5. Enjoy ghost tours organized by different agencies. You will be amazed!
6. Lose yourself in the National Museum of Scotland and also relax on the terrace and have something to drink. Unforgettable views!
Meet the luxury that surrounds the Holyrood Palace.
Inside you will be able to visit the apartments of Mary, Queen of Scots, the Great Gallery and the Chapel.
Many other rooms within the Palace cannot be visited as it is the official residence of the Queen of England when she travels to Scotland.
In addition, you can visit the ruins of the Augustine Abbey! Beautiful!
8. Take a relaxing walk through Dean Village next to the river.
It is an area with a lot of charm where you will be able to think that you're in a fairytale due to its bridges and stone houses. Spectacular! Also, while you are strolling and enjoying the city you will forget that you are in the heart of Edinburgh, it will seem as if they have taken you out of the city and to a quiet area.
You can also visit the Dean Cemetery, the National Gallery of Modern Art and Dean Brigde.
It's a must-see!
9- Enter the interior of St Giles Cathedral , be amazed; and then climb up to its roof to get beautiful views of the Royal Mile. Spectacular!
Not only does its interior stand out, but the exterior is surprising as well.
Inside you will enjoy the beauty of its roofs, the organ, the Chapel of Carlo, the statue of John Knox and the stained-glass windows that let in the sunlight and make good postcard images.
And from the outside, what mostly caught my attention was the dome, because it has as a real crown shape! Take a good look!
10- Stroll along Victoria Street, get to know its exclusive shops, lively bars and elegant restaurants.
This is one of the most famous streets of Edinburgh and, during my visit, I realised that on one side there are elegant restaurants with magnificent terraces, and on the other, famous colourful houses with exclusive shops and of course, what I liked most, their lively bars. .
It was great walking through here!
Also, I was told that the writer JK Rowling used this street as inspiration to create Diagon Alley, curious isn't it?
Don't miss it!
11- Visit, go up and enjoy the views in the Monument to Scott.
I had a hard time deciding whether to go up or not, I thought it was a lot, but then in reality when you do it, despite the fact that the stairs are in the shape of a snail and are getting narrower and narrower, the views are very worthwhile. Don't miss it!
While you're going up you can take breaks, because it has four floors. The first stop, on the first floor we can enjoy a Museum Room, a small museum that tells you about the life of Scott. .
We continue climbing, tired already, a little, but already tired, and we go to the second floor, the third and the fourth, in each of them there are terraces in which you can enjoy the views, which are impressive of course.
Enjoy it a lot! Especially the privileged views of Old Town and Princes Street.
12. Go through and explore the Scottish Parliament, and give your opinion on whether you like the building or not. You'll find thousands of different opinions, because the building is a bit strange, to tell the truth.
In my opinon, it has a certain charm.
13- Walk by the Union Canal, it's a channel that flows throughout the city, on which you can take a boat and enjoy nature. In addition to this, it's an option to have a rest from all the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy landscapes that will fill your retinas with beautiful landscapes.
You can do a lot of things in Edinburgh and enjoy amazing days out.
Each step you take in this city will surprise you because you will always be discovering something new.
Enjoy it!
Until next time, travellers!
