Dundee - not as bad as you think
What is it like to live in Dundee? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I really like Dundee, it's small and busy and happy.
What is the student lifestyle like in Dundee?
It's pretty nice, the universities are incredibly central so you'd have to try pretty hard to have more than a 10-minute walk to campus. DUSA The Union is pretty good and there are good facilities and all that stuff. The library is pretty good and helpful.
How much does it cost to live in Dundee?
Lower than other places in Scotland, I pay £300/month but I've seen some rooms like £220/month. University halls are really expensive (like £450) so try one of the private halls across the road (seriously) for the same experience if you're into that. Don't need to pay anything at all for transport so that's nice.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Dundee? Is there any advice you can give?
Leases usually start before summer and finish in April or June the next year, plus most property is advertised in January and February for the next year.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Foods okay, make sure to try the native cuisine (like chips+cheese+curry sauce)
Is the nightlife good in Dundee? Where is good to go?
Clark's(on Lindsay street) is a nice live music bar with a bit of everything, Beat Generator is a good place for an alternative evening and Busker's puts on some fair shows. Duke's Corner is probably the best bar if you're into lager or whiskey (though it's crazy expensive) plus it's open late and got a good atmosphere. The Nether Inn is a good pub too, it feels like a ship in there.
