What is it like to live in Duisburg? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Duisburg has always been and still is an industrial city. With a lot of industry and therefore a significant amount of truck transport, Duisburg shows a variety of aspects. One hand the industry, but the city itself is great for shopping, going out for lunch or dinner and partying. In the summer you can spend time at the Rhein, however swimming in the Rhein is extremely dangerous and only allowed in specifically pointed-out areas. Next to that, Duisburg also shows sport aspects. With an own football club (MSV Duisburg), a large stadium holding up to 30,000 people, tennis courts, water sports, fencing, and more, you have the opportunity to try yourself in whatever sport you like. Green spots and parks give a great way of spending summer days or going for a jog and there are multiple places to go for a swim.

What is the student lifestyle like in Duisburg?

I can only speak for the student lifestyle as a school student, since I never studied in Duisburg. I am / I have attended an English international school in Duisburg - St George‘s School Duisburg - Düsseldorf. The environment and lifestyle around this school has always been welcoming and warm and I enjoyed going to school there very much. However the local / German schools in Duisburg are great and I‘ve got many friends who experienced a great time there. Nevertheless, Duisburg is not such a student city.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Duisburg? Is there any advice you can give?

I actually am not quite sure how the situation regarding accomodation is.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

The food in Duisburg ranges from typical German food (Schnitzel, Bratwurst) to international and foreign dishes like Pizza, Pasta, Döner or Burgers. There are restaurants of every kind; Spanish, German, Italien, Turkish, Greek, American, which makes it easy to find something for everyone. My favourite dishes, however, are Schnitzel and Pasta.

What places would you recommend visiting in Duisburg?

When staying or living in Duisburg, there are many places that are worth a visit. For instance the Landschaftspark. This is an old industrial area with old monuments, which one can visit without needing a ticket. However if you want to book a guide, you do need one. Next to that, the Landschaftspark Duisburg is also a great place to party, celebrate events or host events and it has hosted events such as Movies or Graduation parties. However the monument Tiger and Turtle is also worth visiting and has become one of the landmarks in Duisburg.

Is it good to eat out in Duisburg? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Duisburg has several great restaurants and places to eat out. For instance in the port there are some places that have amazing food such as the Küppersmühle.

Is the nightlife good in Duisburg? Where is good to go?

Especially along the Rhein and at the Landschaftspark there are great places to go to have night-out with friends.
