Personal contact helps a lot. The apartments have notice board outside, if they have empty apartments (applicable in rich neighborhoods). In other places you might find a notice "to let" hanging out in the building.

Hot spicy foods, rice in all dishes. I like spices.

Alcoholic beverage is illegal to drink in public places. There might be some restricted places like 5 stars hotels where wines are served. Foreign passport holders can buy alcohol from duty free. Prostitution is illegal. Its not a free sex city, only married (between man and woman) people live together. I am not much familiar with many intricate matters of night life.

Coffee is available and tea is the most popular drink. So soft drink, social gatherings, cultural events are the most notable features of life in Dhaka. kissing in public places is not usual culture, drinking alcohol in public places is not recommended.

It's a majority Muslim country and it is expected that people are following the social decorum. There are good restaurants but not abundant bars and no pub of course.

What advice would you give future students headed to Dhaka?

It's cheaper than European cities, if you know how to live in Dhaka. There is scarcity over resources as the population is high. People are very friendly and warm. There are good quality clothes at cheap price. Weather is comfortable and no hard winter.
