The introduction

Far out in the ocean, the water is as blue as petals on the prettiest cornflower, and as clear as the clearest crystal, but so very, very deep; deeper than any cable can fathom. Many church steeples would have to be piled one upon the other to reach from the bottom and above the surface. There dwell the sea people.” _ this is H. C. Andersen’s words, which are on the wall of the Maritime museum.

“There are three types of people: the living, the dead and marines,” _ and this is a Greek philosopher’s words.

Well, to be honest, I didn’t really want to visit the Maritime museum, because I didn’t think, that it would be interesting. I really wanted to have some time for the Kronborg castle, where the Hamlet was placed and which was a great castle there, so that I had planned to go to the Maritime museum, however, it was not in my plans to stay there for a long time. To tell you the truth, it was a really bad idea, not to go in there while being just nearby there, because I may not even be there anytime soon, so that I definitely had to go in there, and, besides, I had my Copenhagen Card, which allowed me to visit the place free of charge and since I had paid so much for my Copenhagen Card, it would not be wise not to go and visit the Maritime museum.

It was this day, when I decided to go and see the Kronborg castle, which was a pretty large and beautiful castle just outside the city of Copenhagen and, since my Copenhagen Card provided me with free transportation outside the city of Copenhagen, too, and the free visits to the famous places, including the Kronborg castle and the Maritime museum, I happily planned my road trip to Helsingor.

About the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark

Did you know, that the M/S Maritime Museum was on the 52-nd place among the places to go in 2014 list? Me neither. So, that’s why I thought, that it wouldn’t be very interesting, and, besides, I don’t really like sailing and ships and things like that, I mean, I’m not very interested in that, I just love watching the “Pirates of the Caribbean” and that’s it, so that I just wanted to have a glance in the museum and go out.

Well, the museum is located on Ny Kronborgvej 1, 3000 Helsingør and it’s just in front of the Kronborg Castle. Its working hours are mainly from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m., so that if you want to visit it, you should get going in the morning, so that you will have much time to explore everything there. And once you are there, you will also want to visit the Kronborg castle, of course, so that you will need all the time that you can have there.

The M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark is the Danish national maritime museum and it offers a unique experience to its visitors with the amazing exhibitions and world class architecture.  The M/S Maritime museum of Denmark has been nominated and has won a number of international awards for the exhibitions held there and its exciting architecture since its opening in 2013. The architects are BIG _ Bjarke Ingels Groupand they are well-known for their work for this maritime museum, which is an underground building with a ship-shaped thing placed around a former dry dock. The entrance is very interesting and it’s like going on a ship really and it’s the first step of connecting to the marine world.
