Experience in Coventry, United Kingdom by Charlotte
What is it like to live in Coventry? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Good student city life, near to Birmingham (second biggest city in England). Birmingham has great places for shopping and night life as well as to eat out and do various activities the choices are unlimited. There are also lots of places to visit around Coventry including Kenilworth Castle (however you may need a car to get there! ).
What is the student lifestyle like in Coventry?
Lots of social events taking place in the city and plenty of different sports and societies to join and meet new people including snow sports, water sports, dance, swimming, badminton, horse riding etc.
How much does it cost to live in Coventry?
Average rent prices are between £350-400 per month for a nice house share or around £450 to live in halls, so fairly cheap in comparison to London areas.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Coventry? Is there any advice you can give?
There are plenty of halls available to live in for students at Coventry. University Victoria halls is the newest most luxury one, Raglan House is also a nice choice. For housing there are plenty of letting agencies in the are including UNAC and student circle.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Average - there is Nandos, pizza express, various cafes and wetherspoons is a popular student choice.
What places would you recommend visiting in Coventry?
Transport Museum is probably the only attraction to be honest... other areas surrounding are a lot nicer e. g. Leamington Spa which is also a popular student area for night life and you can get there by bus or if there's 4 or 5 of you a taxi is fairly cheap!
Is it good to eat out in Coventry? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Average... there's 3 Wetherspoons, Nando's is good, Cosmos is also a great all you can eat buffet and fairly cheap!
Is the nightlife good in Coventry? Where is good to go?
Best place by far is Kasbah... most people go every Friday, full of students and you're bound to bump into a lot of people you know!
What advice would you give future students heading to Coventry?
Aim to visit the surrounding areas a lot to make the most of your stay, Coventry is fun to meet other students and I'd definitely recommend getting involved with a society - best part of uni life in my opinion, you meet some great people and there's always plenty of socials and fun activities being organised (don't be scared to join alone, a lot of people do and everyone is really welcoming)!
