Copenhagen Day 3. Games at Fælledparken
A little about the Fælledparken
It was another day of my being in Copenhagen and it was a pretty Danish weather outside. We had those lectures, of course, and then Kathrine had a suggestion, which she announced the day before _ we could go to this nearby park and have a little hang out and drink some beer or soft drinks and play some games and stuff like that. Well, we all liked that idea, and we all went to the park called Fælledparken in Danish. The park was created in 1906-1914 years, and it’s a really large park, and, in fact, it’s the largest park in the whole Copenhagen with trees and green grass and people just go there to hang out with friends or have a drink or just relax and be in the nature, if you ask me.
You know, there are so many activities, that you can do in Fælledparken, including jogging, playing football, playing some other games, taking pictures, etc. The southern part of Fælledparken was even used to place helicopters, which were transporting patients to Rigshospitalet until 2006. Then they built a helicopter platform on the roof of Rigshospitalet and after that the helicopters use to sit on that roof. It’s very well seen from the top of the new university building _ the Maersk Tower, where we were on our first day of the trainings course in internal medicine.
Our games at Fælledparken
Anyways, after the lectures Kathrine brought some drinks, including Carlsberg beer and Faxe Kondi, which is a Danish soft drink containing both glucose and sugar and caffeine and it’s not very bad, I must say, it’s kind of like Sprite. We also had some Coca Cola and Pepsi, and we had Tuborg beer, too. We had all those packs, and we were ready to hit the road, although the road was not very long, because this Fælledparken was just nearby.
So, Kathrine went first and we all followed her. We just had to cross a couple of roads and then there we were, just nearby the university building. Although it was kind of cloudy weather and it was like going to rain a little, we still didn’t give up, and we went to Fælledparken with all our drinks and stuff.
It seemed like Kathrine had some other plans for us, too. She had brought a game set of wooden pieces, and she had another game for us, too.
So, firstly, we had this game of gathering into groups of four people, and then we would guess each other's habits and hobbies and music and stuff like that. It was very good for getting to know each other a little better, than we had already. I mean, it was just the third day, that we had seen each other and a little more information about each other wouldn’t be bad for us. That game actually helped, because we got to know which one liked which music and which one liked hiking and which one wanted to become a firefighter, etc.
After that, we had this other game, when we had to choose between two things, for example, winter and summer and things like that and there were two lines, and we had to run and get into that line, which we preferred. Well, it was quite fun then. And then the drizzling started and everything got a little messier, however, it was not raining that hard not to enjoy the game.
We continued our games and then it was time for another one. Some of us did know that game, however, many of us didn’t know it, so that Kathrine had to explain the rules to us. And the rules were pretty simple. There were two groups, ten persons in each group, because that’s how many wooden sticks we had for each group, and then there were other wooden sticks, which those group members had, and they had to through them and try to get those wooden pieces fall, which were placed on the ground vertically. It was not very hard for the wooden stick to fall, however, it was pretty hard to through a wooden stick and get the other one fall. Some of us did a pretty good job in throwing, and they got many points, while others couldn’t even throw those wooden sticks to reach other group’s wooden sticks on the other side. This game kind of reminded me of this British game called Cricket, whihch we used to play in Buckswood school and in England after that, however, it is not the same at all. I guess, I remembered that game because of the wooden sticks. Well, anyways, we had a lot of fun playing those games.
To be honest, I didn’t really think, that the games in the park would be so entertaining and it was great, that it was just drizzling and not raining cats and dogs, as it was said in the weather forecast, because we didn’t really have much of those raincoats, and we would get wet really badly.
We did also have some drinks, and we had those chips with cheese and the Carlsberg and Tuborg beer were very delicious, and they didn’t really taste like beer in Georgia. It was all different there. And I really liked that taste, however, I couldn’t really drink more than one can, because I’m not much of a drinker. Though, I could watch all those people in Copenhagen and there were plenty of them drinking beer or wine in the streets and that really surprised me, because I didn’t think, that there would be so many people drinking just like that in Denmark. It was really something, that I didn’t like about Copenhagen, if you want to know the truth. And the second thing, that I didn’t like about Denmark was that it’s a very expensive country, and even the Danes say that out loud.
Well, that was our games in Faelledparken and it was the evening coming up, however, that was not the end of our day, and Kathrine had other plans for us, too, so that we would follow her to the Studenterhuset after she had dropped those game things in the university building and came back.
