Arriving in Copenhagen. Day 1 - off to the city

Arriving at the Copenhagen airport

Well, I will tell you about me arriving in Copenhagen and my first getting-all-wet by Danish rain. To be honest, besides all the effort and stuff, I did still struggle with getting to the accommodations place and getting into my apartment, however, everything still went well and I did sleep in a bed that night!

There was a little delay on our flight, and we arrived in Copenhagen airport somewhere about half an hour late, I guess, so that my course organizator Kathrine, who was going to meet me in the airport to give me my accommodation keys and help me get there, had to wait a very long time for me to finally arrive in the arrivals’ hall in the Copenhagen airport. There I found a wi-fi connection in the airport and connected with her through messenger and that was how we kind of told each other where to meet.

You know, looking from the sky from the airplane window everything seemed so green and fresh, that I remembered looking at the weather forecasts and thinking, what it would feel like to be there in Copenhagen, because it was july and it was very, very hot in Georgia at that time, it was even somewhere about 35 degrees Celsius there, I guess, and it said, that it was 16 degrees Celsius in Copenhagen or something like that and it was a season of rainy days. I didn’t really believe, that there would be so many rainy days and I had a plain raincoat brought there just in case, however, then I realized, that it was a big mistake not to buy a good raincoat for those rainy days there.

Getting into the airport it’s always hard to find your way to the baggage and then to the exit, however there are always those signs telling you where to go. Though, it’s said, that you should follow the people and I did that and I followed them, of course, then we went to the passport control and the luggage control and stuff and then I went to collect my baggage.

After some time of waiting, there was my baggage and I took it and went to the exit, because I knew that Kathrine was waiting for me for a very long time. She had this sign in her hands and I recognized her from the Facebook picture. She was pretty sociable, and she explained some things about getting around Copenhagen and what I needed to do. We agreed to have a reisekarte bought for myself, which was necessary to get around the city by metro or buses or trains. However, it was not cheap at all. There were automates in the airport metro station, where we bought this card and paid 250 DKK for it, from which about 50 DKK was a deposit or so and the rest of the money could be used for the transportation.

Off to the city

And so we went to the metro and went to my station, which was called Frederiksberg and where my accommodation was located. I just had to walk 10 minutes or something and I found that pretty easy, however, then I realized, that I was wrong.

Well, Kathrine had some organizations stuff to do and because she waited for me longer than expected, she couldn’t really take me to the accommodations herself and I told her, that it was alright, and I was pretty sure, that I could find them, so that she gave me the keys and told me how to get there and everything.

Soon my station was announced and I went out. I looked for those things, where you check-in and check-out and I knew, that check out was that one, where it was written “uit”, which means “out” or something like that and I put my card on it and that was it, I was free and I couldn’t get fined for not checking-out! Remember, that you should always check-in and check-out when moving around the city in Copenhagen, because if the controlling guys catch you, you will be fined for too much money!
