Erasmus Experience in Cergy-Pontoise, France by Suzy

Why did you choose to go to Cergy-Pontoise, France?

I live near London and so I wanted to be close to Paris so I could get back home to my family and friends quite easily. It also did Business which I wanted to be able to study.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cergy-Pontoise?

Cergy is a town full of students, so you would expect there to be a lot of stuff going on for students, however I think most students go into Paris to do anything exciting!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Cergy-Pontoise?

The University of Cergy Pontoise's International Relations office guaranteed me a place in a CROUS accommodation because I was an Erasmus student. This was very very reassuring as I didn't have to find accommodation for myself!

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The university has its CILFAC course which I found pretty good, everyone is allocated a class after taking a little placement test. For Erasmus students at the university it only costs 40€ a semester which is very well priced for 6 hours of French classes a week!

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Cergy-Pontoise from your city?

With the Carte ImaginR, especially for students. I live in Cergy though, 5 minutes away, I walk everywhere!
