Cergy is a town that is only 35 minutes away from Paris by RER (suburban train). At first sight it isn't quite impressive, but then you discover that it's an ideal place to live in. The university is only 3 minutes away from the RER stop. The halls of residences are more or less near the university (Les Chennes d'Or is just behind, and the erasmus environment is awesome!), that is pretty quiet. However, there is a huge shopping centre with all kind of stores, bars and restaurants.
Les Etangs de Cergy are 15 minutes away walking from the city centre, and it's near the port (it's a beautiful place with swans and little boats. A natural leisure area ideal for making BBQ, taking a bath in summer, riding, sunbathing, or even drinking!).
It's true that there aren't university parties, and the erasmus parties are made in the halls of residences, or in one of the three pubs that exist in the town (one of them makes stripteases every Wednesday!) Nevertheless, it costs just 6 euros per day, and it doesn't matter how many times you use it, taking the RER and the underground, and in 35 minutes you are in Paris, and you can go to one of the big discos of the city!
