Experience in Cardiff, United Kingdom by Sara 'malteser'

What is it like to live in Cardiff? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's a great city to live in. Very friendly and not too busy. There's lots of things to do and there's a train station right next to the university. It has a couple of beautiful parks near the city centre and Cardiff bay has some lovely restaurants. In terms of prices, it's generally not expensive. I would definitely recommend living here.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cardiff?

The student lifestyle is great and the university has a very good students union as well as a broad range of societies. There's something for everyone and student deals in lots of places.

How much does it cost to live in Cardiff?

It depends on how much you go out but I tend to spend £45-£80 per week. Entry tickets to nightclubs cost £5 on average and drinks usually around £3/4 during the week. In some places it's cheaper. A single bus ticket £1. 70 and a day one is £3. 20 at the moment. Rent is between £250-300 per month per person.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Cardiff? Is there any advice you can give?

It's not very difficult as its a very student friendly city. My advice would be to check whether bills are included in the rent and whether the house/flat is furnished as not all of them are. Also compare different letting agencies and look at reviews. The students union of cardiff university also has a very good letting agency.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are a wide variety of places to eat, from classic pub food to Mexican, chinese, Indian and Lebanese.

What places would you recommend visiting in Cardiff?

Cardiff Castle, National Museum, Cardiff Bay, Bute Park.
